Slimming down for summer? They say your best bod starts in the kitchen, which means skipping out on takeout and whipping up a few delicious recipes instead. If salad is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dieting, think again! Here are three mouth-watering and nutritious recipes you can prepare and take with you to work on the daily:

Chicken & White Bean Salad 
Ingredients: 
Dressing

  • 1 medium clove garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup white-wine vinegar or red-wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Salad

  • 1 15-ounce can cannellini or other white beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 1/2 cups diced cooked chicken breast (see Tips)
  • 2 cups diced zucchini and/or summer squash (about 2 small)
  • 1 1/2 cups diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced ricotta salata, halloumi or feta cheese
  • 1/3 cup chopped, well-drained, oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil, plus whole basil leaves
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste (optional)
  • 2 cups torn escarole or romaine lettuce
  • 2 cups torn radicchio leaves

Directions:

For vinaigrette: Peel the garlic and smash with the side of a chef’s knife. Next, use a fork to mash the garlic with 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl. Whisk in 5 tablespoons oil. Add 6 tablespoons orange juice, vinegar and mustard. Whisk until well blended. Whisk up 4 tablespoons more juice for a more mild flavor. Set aside at room temperature.

For Salad: Combine beans, chicken, zucchini, celery, cheese, and sundried tomatoes in a large bowl until well blended. Add chopped basil and ¾ cup vinaigrette and toss. Taste and season with salt and pepper if desired.

Smoky Corn & Black Bean Pizza
Ingredients:

  • 1 plum tomato, diced
  • 1 cup canned black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup fresh corn kernels, (about 2 ears)
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 pound prepared whole-wheat pizza dough
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, preferably smoked mozzarella

Directions:

  1. Preheat grill to medium.
  2. Combine tomato, beans and corn in a medium bowl. Sprinkle cornmeal onto a large baking sheet. Stretch dough into a 12-inch circle and lay on top of the cornmeal (coating the entire underside of the doug).
  3. Transfer the crust from the baking sheet to the grill. Next, close the lid and cook until the crust is puffed and lightly browned on the bottom (about 4 to 5 minutes).
  4. Using a large spatula, flip the crust. Spread barbecue sauce on it and quickly sprinkle with the tomato mixture and cheese. Close the lid; grill until the cheese is melted and the bottom of the crust is browned (4 to 5 minutes).

Chicken & Blueberry Pasta Salad
Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, trimmed of fat
  • 8 ounces whole-wheat fusilli or radiatore
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated lime zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Place chicken in a skillet or saucepan and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer gently until cooked through (10 to 12 minutes). Transfer the chicken to a cutting board to cool. Shred into bite-size strips.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook pasta until just tender, about 9 minutes or according to package directions. Drain and place in a large bowl.
  3. Meantime, place oil and shallot in a small skillet and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until softened and golden brown (2 to 5 minutes). Add broth, feta, and lime juice and cook. Stir occasionally until the feta begins to melt (1 to 2 minutes).
  4. Add the chicken to the bowl with the pasta. Add the dressing, blueberries, thyme, lime zest and salt and toss until combined.

Winter is for gym and at-home workouts, but spring is a little different. With the weather warming up, step outside for some fresh air and leap into shape with these simple workouts (no equipment required): 

Walking Lunges - Great for your quads, glutes, and hamstrings.
Stand straight upward with your feet together. Step forward with your left leg and lower hips toward the floor. Bend both knees at a 90 degree angle. Make sure your back leg never touches the ground! Push off with your right food and reset at starting position. Repeat on opposite leg.

Bench Jump - Targeting the same muscles, this one uses a bit more energy.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and position yourself into a regular squat. Use your core to jump up onto the bench in front of you. When you land on the bench, bend your knees into squatting position and lower your back. That’s one rep. Try to be as gentle as possible and wear comfortable sneakers.

Wall Sits - Engages all of your leg muscles and is quite challenging.
Find a wall and “sit” for 30 seconds, making a 90 degree angle with your legs. Push yourself each week by adding on seconds and you will strengthen those muscles faster!

Donkey Kicks - Work your glutes off with this one!
Come onto all fours with your knees just below your hips and wrists directly below your shoulders. Keeping your core engaged, lift your leg until your thigh is parallel to the ground (your leg would make a slight 90 degree angle). Lower to starting position and switch legs. Repeat.

Developing a six pack can seem like a long shot. The trick is to create a fresh diet and workout plan. While you know eating clean and hydrating often is essential to getting fit, you might find it difficult to know which exercises will target those core muscles. To help you get started, we’ve compiled six effective ab workouts to incorporate into your new fitness plan:

Torso Twist - Engage your obliques by standing in an upright position with a small weight in hands. Slowly twist your torso to the right, rotate back to center, and then to the left. Repeat. Remember, proper breathing is key. Exhale as you complete the twist and inhale back to center.

Fitness Ball Workout - Use your fitness ball as a seat. Place your feet hip-width apart, flat on the floor. Straighten your back and rest your hands across your chest (in sit-up position). Squeeze abs, lean back slowly, and return. Don’t forget to breathe.

Pelvic Lifts - Lie on your back with your knees bent approximately 45 degrees with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arms at your sides, palms facing down. Squeeze your abdomen, then lift your hips and glutes away from the floor. Hold for one to two breaths and return to starting position. Repeat. 

Kneeling Crunch - Isolate your abs by kneeling with one arm locked straight under your shoulder. Reach the other arm forward and keep at shoulder level while the opposite leg swings back at hip height. Remember: exhale, contract the abdominal muscles, and round your body up to the ceiling. Repeat on other side.

Leg Lifts - Lie with your back on the ground. Place your hands directly under your sacrum, palms down. Keeping your legs together, lift both at once to a 90 degree angle. Lower back down and repeat.

Toe Dip - Sit straight with both knees bent, and feet flat on the floor. Lean back onto your elbows, with shoulder blades down and palms flat. Clench abs as you slide your hands under your lower back for support. Lift legs up until knees are approximately 90 degrees over your hips. As you inhale, dip your toe to the floor and back to starting position. Exhale and alternate legs.

Monday, a reminder the weekend is over and it’s time to go back to your work week routine. Tack on getting yourself up for a workout, and its no wonder why Monday motivation can be hard to come by.

So if you hit snooze this morning, don’t be discouraged. It’s not too late for you to kickstart your week with these quick workouts you can do right at your desk:

Tricep Dips - Scoot to the front of a stationary chair, placing both hands on the seat facing forwards. Then take a few steps out until your butt clears the chair and your knees are at 90 degree angles. Bend elbows straight back to lower yourself past the chair seat then straighten your arms back out without locking elbows for a complete dip. Do 20 dips in total.

Seated Leg Lifts - Sit down properly on a stationary chair, grasping the sides with your hands. Straighten your right leg completely while the left remains at a 90 degree angle. Keep your abs tight as you pulse your right leg up an inch and lower back down, completing 15-20 lifts. Then switch sides.

Standing Rear Pulses - Facing forward with your feet together and holding the edge of a desk for support, bend one leg behind you, flexing the foot. Raise your heel up a few inches, release slightly, and press your foot directly back behind you (for one full set). Continue this pulse 20 to 30 times, not letting your bent knee come forward past your standing leg the entire time. Then switch sides.

Incline Lunge with Foot Tap - Facing forward holding the edge of a desk for support, step one leg back into a lunge - keeping your weight on your front leg. Then bring the back leg in to tap next to the front foot. Continue this 10 to 15 times then switch sides.

Don’t be afraid of baring your body this summer, check out these toning moves to shape up your back (and core!):

Power up your plank - We know the perfect plank is one of the best exercises for your core, but by adding a row to your plank workout - you’ll target the back as well! Hold two medium free weights while in a straight arm plank position. Alternate one arm at a time, pull one arm back in a row. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times. 

Use resistance bands - Grasp the ends of a resistance band, or further towards the center if more resistance is needed. Then, fully extend your arms with a slight bend in the elbows and pull the band apart by squeezing your shoulder blades together. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times. 

Superman lift  - This helps target your upper and lower back, while working the core. Lie face down on the floor and lift both your legs and arms off the floor at the same time. Hold for 10 seconds before bringing yourself back to starting position. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times. 

Push ups - This basic exercise hits nearly every major muscle in your upper body, including your lats (aka the frustrating “bra bulge”). If you can’t do a full push up, modify it by kneeling in the position and doing your push up from there.

After months of unpredictable temps, skin baring season is finally upon us. Which means one thing: your legs are going to be on full display. So before slipping into your pleated skirt, give your legs a little TLC with the below tips:

Scrub: First step on the beach-body checklist? Exfoliation. It rids your body of dry, rough skin, making it more receptive to other treatments. Opt for a hand mitt and shower gel or for more sensitive skin, a dry body brush.

Bathe: Use a gentle body wash and warm water. Alternatively, apply body oil under running water. This way once you’ve dried off, your skin is still left with the perfect amount of moisture.
