Losing belly fat isn’t just a summer thing - it’s a goal that many women (and men) struggle with at times. If you’ve been trying to switch up your diet and hit the gym more but still aren’t seeing the results, these might be the reasons:

You’re doing the wrong workout
Cardio workouts alone won’t help you slim down your waist. What you need is a balance of cardio strength training and weight resistance training. Muscle burns more calories than fat, which means you naturally burn more calories by having more muscle.

You’re eating too many processed foods
Refined grains like white bread, chips, and sugary drinks only increase inflammation in your body. Continuing to eat these processed foods will only slow the process of losing belly fat, so start incorporating more natural foods, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains which into your diet. They all have anti-inflammatory properties and can prevent belly bloat.

You’re aging
It’s not just a myth - as you mature, your body changes the way it gains and loses weight. Your metabolism slows and you will experience menopause. In menopause, the production of estrogen and progesterone slows. The testosterone levels start to drop, but at a slow rate. This causes women to hold weight in their bellies. You can, however, fight this by doing a combination of weight and cardiovascular training.

If a healthy diet and exercise isn’t helping you achieve the body you want and deserve, Cavi-Lipo can help! Ask us about our cavi-lipo treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. Slimming down for summer? They say your best bod starts in the kitchen, which means skipping out on takeout and whipping up a few delicious recipes instead. If salad is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dieting, think again! Here are three mouth-watering and nutritious recipes you can prepare and take with you to work on the daily:

Chicken & White Bean Salad

  • 1 medium clove garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup white-wine vinegar or red-wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 15-ounce can cannellini or other white beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 1/2 cups diced cooked chicken breast (see Tips)
  • 2 cups diced zucchini and/or summer squash (about 2 small)
  • 1 1/2 cups diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced ricotta salata, halloumi or feta cheese
  • 1/3 cup chopped, well-drained, oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil, plus whole basil leaves
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste (optional)
  • 2 cups torn escarole or romaine lettuce
  • 2 cups torn radicchio leaves

For vinaigrette: Peel the garlic and smash with the side of a chef’s knife. Next, use a fork to mash the garlic with 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl. Whisk in 5 tablespoons oil. Add 6 tablespoons orange juice, vinegar and mustard. Whisk until well blended. Whisk up 4 tablespoons more juice for a more mild flavor. Set aside at room temperature.

For Salad: Combine beans, chicken, zucchini, celery, cheese, and sundried tomatoes in a large bowl until well blended. Add chopped basil and ¾ cup vinaigrette and toss. Taste and season with salt and pepper if desired.

Smoky Corn & Black Bean Pizza

  • 1 plum tomato, diced
  • 1 cup canned black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup fresh corn kernels, (about 2 ears)
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 pound prepared whole-wheat pizza dough
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, preferably smoked mozzarella

  1. Preheat grill to medium.
  2. Combine tomato, beans and corn in a medium bowl. Sprinkle cornmeal onto a large baking sheet. Stretch dough into a 12-inch circle and lay on top of the cornmeal (coating the entire underside of the doug).
  3. Transfer the crust from the baking sheet to the grill. Next, close the lid and cook until the crust is puffed and lightly browned on the bottom (about 4 to 5 minutes).
  4. Using a large spatula, flip the crust. Spread barbecue sauce on it and quickly sprinkle with the tomato mixture and cheese. Close the lid; grill until the cheese is melted and the bottom of the crust is browned (4 to 5 minutes).

Chicken & Blueberry Pasta Salad

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, trimmed of fat
  • 8 ounces whole-wheat fusilli or radiatore
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated lime zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Place chicken in a skillet or saucepan and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer gently until cooked through (10 to 12 minutes). Transfer the chicken to a cutting board to cool. Shred into bite-size strips.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook pasta until just tender, about 9 minutes or according to package directions. Drain and place in a large bowl.
  3. Meantime, place oil and shallot in a small skillet and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until softened and golden brown (2 to 5 minutes). Add broth, feta, and lime juice and cook. Stir occasionally until the feta begins to melt (1 to 2 minutes).
  4. Add the chicken to the bowl with the pasta. Add the dressing, blueberries, thyme, lime zest and salt and toss until combined.

Just because you’re on a diet, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all the foods you love! By making a few smart substitutions, you can completely transform your eating habits for healthy weight loss:

Pretzels for chips

Enjoy a bowl of pretzels instead of high-fat potato chips or corn chips. They contain far less sodium and grease.

Angel food cake for devil’s food cake

Did you know that one slice of food cake has over 200 calories? Try angel food cake as a low-carb, and often gluten-free substitute, which contains under 100 calories.

Sweet potato for french fries

French fries are typically coated in grease and tons of salt. In fact, a serving since of about 84g (11 french fries) contains 130 calories. Sweet potatoes are far more sweeter (naturally), are a better source of fiber, and contain less calories.

Margarine for cream cheese

When baking, swap out cream cheese or soft margarine, which is low in saturated fat and contains 0 grams of trans fat - your cake will be just as mouthwatering!

Sherbet for ice cream

Now that we’re leaping into Spring, why not switch up that ice cream cone for a refreshing bowl of sherbet? Sherbert or any other low-fat yogurt has less fat and has less milk fat as well as sugar.

For many of us, slimming down can have a yo-yo effect - one moment you’re content with your weight and the next you’re slowing gaining what you lost. If this phenomenon sounds familiar, don’t let it discourage you! By following a few simple tips, weight loss can be easily maintained. Here’s the secret:

Keep an eye on numbers. Once you start losing weight, be sure to weigh yourself every week or two. That way, you know the pounds won’t be creeping up on you.

Set goals. Write a list of goals you want to accomplish as you slim down and kickstart your fitness plan - both small and big ones. For example, make a promise to yourself that you won’t indulge in your favorite bowl of ice cream until you reach X number of pounds or sign up for a marathon - anything to motivate you throughout your journey.

Track your diet. Whether it be in your notebook or on your mobile app, keep a record of your daily eating habits and the amount of calories you consume. You’ll be able to see if you’re eating the right food proportions and what you might need to change.

Find support. You don’t have to take the journey alone! Shedding pounds can be a challenge for anyone, so find a social support group, whether it be friends, family, or online clicks. The stronger your support team, the more you can motivate each other to stay focused on your goals.

While we hope these weight loss secrets work for you, we know that sometimes slimming down can be a challenge even if you’re doing all the right things. And that’s when cavi-lipo can help! Remember, this non-surgical procedure shouldn’t substitute your healthy lifestyle. By maintaining a healthy diet and fitness routine you can expect long-term results. Find it challenging to stick to that New Year’s diet you promised yourself? Don’t let it defeat you! With a few tips, you can learn how easy it is to fall into a healthy eating plan:

Cook often. The first step to sticking to your New Year’s diet is to prepare home cooked meals. When it comes down to feeding your body with the nutrients it needs, nothing is of higher quality than ingredients from your very own kitchen. Not only does it provide you will a balanced meal, but it also means you’ll decrease your intake of salt and trans fats, which is key to slimming down and staying healthy.

Eat breakfast. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” It’s not just a myth! When you eat a hearty breakfast, packed with healthy carbs and proteins, you’ll experience less cravings and receive the nutrition you need to jump start your day.

Indulge seldomly. A little dark chocolate or a bite of ice cream once in awhile won’t ruin your diet. In fact, it can help you stay on track. This is because when you deprive yourself of the sweet snacks you’re craving, you can end up falling back into bad habits. So don’t be afraid of a little indulgence.

Learn portion control. The trick to sticking to your diet is to learn portion control. This means resisting temptations to binge and knowing when your body says it’s full. And when it comes to snacking, choose 100-calorie packs instead of large bags.

Sometimes following a healthy diet doesn’t get us the results we want as quickly as we may hope. That’s where Cavi-Lipo comes in. This nonsurgical procedure is ideal for those looking to jump start their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier lifestyle for 2016.

If this sounds like you, give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.
