Winter is not a girl’s best friend, which is why giving your skin a little extra TLC is essential. Here are 10 tips we recommend to help you get a radiant winter’s glow:

1. Wash with lukewarm water as this will avoid the stripping of your natural oils.
2. Moisturize immediately after bathing. It needs this especially after washing up.
3. Choose the right moisturizer - one that is nourishing and doesn’t have petroleum based ingredients (which can further dry your skin in winter).
4. Install a humidifier in your home to put even more moisture back into your skin while you’re sleeping.
5. Drink more water instead of hot cocoa because your skin needs extra hydration from the inside, out.
6. Exfoliate to eliminate dead cells, especially on our hands. Find an exfoliating mask you can use on both your hands and face and moisturize immediately afterwards.
7. Switch up your cleanser for a more hydrating version that contains moisturizing ingredients.
8. Eat foods high in water. Winter makes us want to turn to comfort foods, but opting for apples, oranges, tomatoes, and zucchini can support the healthy production of collagen and elastin.
9. Avoid toxins and irritants such as wool and chemical-laden detergents, which can bother sensitive skin.
10. Try making a DIY hydrating mask using ingredients such as avocado, honey, yogurt, olive, and jojoba oil.

Don’t forget to pamper yourself with one of Tropicalaser’s organic hydrating facials! All signs of roughness and  winter dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Let’s just admit it: winter isn’t our skin’s best friend.

By now, you might be happy that  your air isn’t frizzing up, but what about your skin? For most of us, winter means cracked hands, scaly legs, and dry cheeks. What you need to combat the lack of moisture is a new beauty routine. Grab these 7 basic skin care products to help you feel better in your skin:

1. Moisturizer: You will need to moisturize - a lot more than you did over the summer. First, find out your specific skin type, whether you’re dry or oily/dry combination.Apply within a few minutes of bathing to help trap the moisture.

2. Vaseline: Vaseline will be your new best friend. This petroleum jelly-based product can be used for anything from a lip balm to a foot cream. It also moistens your feed, elbows, and knees.

3. Aquaphor: Aquaphor isn’t much different than Vaseline. It’s like your secret ingredient to skin care therapy, especially for dry under-eye patches.

4. Humidifier: A humidifier might take up more space in your bedroom, but for what it’s worth, a humidifier can hyper-hydrate your skin while you sleep and prevent that pesky, itchy outer layer.

5. Warm Water: Taking a hot shower is tempting when the temps outside are freezing, but before you turn that handle, let’s get one fact straight: hot water removes the natural oils from your skin, removing natural oils and making your skin even more dry. If you’re willing to sacrifice your beautiful, healthy skin go for hot, but if you’re looking to avoid looking scaly, then warm water it is!

6. Cream Cleanser: Just before bed and in the morning, you’ll need a creamy cleanser to moisturize the skin, remove your makeup, and avoid irritating your skin at the same time.

7. Toothbrush: A toothbrush will be your guide to soft, luscious lips this winter. Why? Because scraping off excess skin with bristles is a friendly cure for your chapped lips.

Looking for more winter skincare tips and treatments? Turn to Tropicalaser.  We offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated. In the end, all signs of roughness and dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

As Summer turns to Fall, it’s necessary to adopt a new skincare regime. We like to think of it as tweaking your daily beauty routine. These small changes in the end can do wonders for the skin, especially when dry winters come around. If you’re unsure how to make this simple change, follow our quick guideline below:

Cleansers - Never hit the pillow without cleansing your skin. Makeup and all that junk you apply to your face, neck, and chest can clog pores and cause premature aging and breakouts. To improve the feel and appearance of your skin, use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Then, apply a dime-sized amount of your favorite cleanser (depending on your skin type). Gently massage away all that dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. Speaking of skin types: remember that cream cleansers are best for dry skin and gel formulas are more suited for oily complexions.

Exfoliators - We’re always big advocates on exfoliation, but if you want a healthy glow in dry winters, a facial scrub is a must-have skincare item. Not only do they help speed up skin cell production, but they also help clear away old skin cells. Not to mention, they unclog pores. Look for an exfoliator made from natural fruit enzymes - one that will dissolve dead skin cells without microbeads. Exfoliate about once or twice a week depending on how your skin type (dry skin needs once a week while oily combination skin needs three or four).

Moisturizer - Moisturizer is a year-round beauty essential, but finding the right one for fall and winter is the trick. Remember: you always need a base of SPF to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays. The air in winter is dry, so treat your skin accordingly - mainly by purchasing the right formula and applying twice daily. In the morning, rinse using a slightly lighter formula. Before bedtime, use a richer formula - one that contains collagen, elastin, and essential lipids to refresh your face and slow the aging process overtime.

We’re loving this list of other skincare essentials from Health Magazine!

For additional skincare tips and treatments, turn to Tropicalaser.  We offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated. In the end, all signs of roughness and dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion.

As the days get shorter and your skin gets a little drier, it’s time to switch up your skincare routine, prep your complexion for cool weather, and repair sun damage. From sunscreen to soap, here are a few tips we recommend:

Switch up your sunscreen

Summer heat and humidity can be heavy on the skin, so you’re forced to give your complexion a break by lightening up on your sunscreen by switching to a gel or liquid formula. This fall, you don't have to worry about looking or feeling too greasy if you choose a creamier one.

Layer up your moisturizer

The same goes for your moisturizer. When the temperatures outside are hot and humid, you have to choose a lightweight product. But in the fall, your skin will start to dry up, leading you to need a slightly heavier moisturizer than you did last month.

Ditch the soap

Soap can make your skin dry out easily, so choose a hydrating cleanser or creamy body wash that will leave your skin feeling silky smooth all through the fall and winter months.

Get a facial

Just because summer is almost over, doesn’t mean you should forget about exfoliating and clarifying. In fact, you should be doing it more as the weather dries up! At Tropicalaser, we offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated.

It’s no secret that warmer, more humid temperatures can cause more acne prone individuals to breakout in the midst of summer. Switch up your skincare routine to help fight acne and put your best face forward.

Clean Deep

The hot, humid weather can cause your oil glands to kick in big time, which ultimately leads to clogged pores. Beat it with a cleansing brush that can get deep into your skin - more so than your soaped up fingers can.

Apply Toner

Got ultimate oily skin? Use a toner. Tab a bit on in the morning and at night using a cotton pad. Gently apply to the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Don’t forget the neck and chest area! This method in conjunction with deep cleansing will fight pimples.

Treat Breakouts Immediately

When you see a pimple, don’t wait! Treat it with a thin layer of benzoyl peroxide spot treatment before bed and allow it to work overnight. The treatment will kill bacteria that causes zits to grow in the most unwanted places.

If these three tips just aren’t doing the trick for your skin, then pamper yourself with organic facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Every summer, we hear the same lecture about SPF. But sunscreen isn’t the only way to keep your skin safe this season! From June through September, you skin will undergo many changes, so it’s important to plan your skincare regimen accordingly. Here are a few tips we recommend:

1. Change Up Your Diet
Did you know that eating the right foods can make it more difficult for your skin to burn? That’s right! Knowing what foods will positively impact your skin can help you protect you. Try flaxseed oil, salmon, and walnuts - all packed with plenty of nutrients. And don’t forget fruit and vegetables to keep yourself hydrated.

2. Keep Your Pores Clear
Hot and humid temperatures can bring about acne and clogged pores, especially if you’re using your heavy moisturizer from the winter. Switch things up by choosing a lightweight oil-free moisturizer starting now and through September. It’s also important to exfoliate your skin twice a week to clear out your pores from any winter skin layers.

3. Reverse Signs of Aging
Most of us know that sun damage can speed up the aging process. But did you know it’s possible to reverse the damage? Treating prior skin damage involves topical medications that “lighten hyper-pigmentation and treat precancerous cells”. So choose products that contain glycolic acid to help minimize signs of aging and decrease your chances of squamous-cell cancers.

Make a promise to yourself this summer to protect your skin in all the ways you can. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

There’s a lot of talk about which sunscreens to wear, which to avoid, and how often to apply them. As your Long Island laser clinic, skin care is of the utmost important to us, which is why we searched high and low to set the record straight and tell you what you need to know about protecting your skin:

Q: Is 100+ sunscreen really all that better than SPF 30?
A: To answer this question we must first know what SPF means. SPF refers to the “ability of a sunscreen to block UVB rays, which cause sunburns, but not UVA rays, which are more closely linked to deeper skin damage.”

While it’s logical to think that SPF 30 is greater than SPF 15, that’s not exactly how it works. SPF 15 blocks out about 94 percent of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks out 97 percent, and SPF 45 blocks out around 98 percent. After that, it becomes more of a marketing gimmick. Although higher SPF can better protect your skin against the harmful effects, the reality of these numbers only goes so far.

That being said, the best way to make sure you are thoroughly protected is to reapply often. In other words, don’t just think you can slab some on in the morning and be done with it. Protecting your skin means being consistent and educated about how sunscreen works.

Will you think twice about applying sunscreen this summer? We know we will!

Make a pact this year to protect your skin by reapplying at least once per hour. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Leaving for Spring Break soon? The warm sun on your skin can feel therapeutic but can more so be extremely damaging to your skin. In fact, the more sun you’re exposed to, the faster your skin is likely to age. Here’s how:

Sun and elastin
Overtime, the sun’s UV light damages the elastin in your skin. The breakdown of these fibers essentially causes the skin to stretch, sag, and lose the ability to snap back, leading to what we know to be wrinkles.

Protecting your skin
Although it’s best to start protecting your skin when you’re young, it’s never too late to take precautions. Below are a few actions to take before basking in the sun:
Wear SPF and reapply - An obvious solution is to apply SPF 30 or more every hour, especially between 10am and 2pm when the sun is at its strongest.
Hydrate - Drink less alcohol and more water - it hydrates the skin. Once the skin is damaged by the sun, one thing that can help is to feed your body with the proper amount of H2O.
Moisturize daily - Apply a moisturizer every day to give your skin a more youthful appearance (and hydrate).
Eat a balanced diet - One of the smartest things you can do to counteract sun damage is to incorporate healthy foods into your diet. Vegetables and fresh fruits can help prevent premature skin aging, even if you’ve been exposed to more sun than you intended to.

Make a pact this year to protect your skin in these little ways. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Craving your favorite comfort foods this winter? Aside from creamy soups and pasta dishes, there are many other alternatives that will not only comfort you but will also rejuvenate your skin and slow the aging process:

Nuts
Rich with unsaturated fats, there are a variety of nuts that can reduce the appearance of aging skin. This is due to the amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that it offers. So grab a handful of almonds and cashews on-the-go or add some to your favorite salad.

Sweet Potatoes
Swap out that baked potato for an even sweeter alternative. Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene, which not only gives them their orange color but also offers aging benefits. For example, it prevents the breakdown of collagen in your skin and also protects you from sun damage (note: this is not an alternative for sunscreen).

Chocolate
No more excuses needed! Contrary to popular belief, indulging in a bar of chocolate every now and again will not cause breakouts. In fact, the flavonoids found in dark chocolate can help protect your skin from sun damage.

Blueberries
One of the healthiest fruits that fights signs of aging. Packed with antioxidants, blueberries can fight inflammation that leads to unhealthy skin. Throw a handful into your morning bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothie for the most delicious and beneficial results!

Is a healthy diet not giving you the results you desire? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Feeling cursed with facial redness this winter? When the weather becomes dry as it is, it’s only natural that your skin will turn dry and flushed. In fact, many of us suffer from dry skin and redness during the cooler months. But luckily, there are a few simple remedies that can neutralize the skin’s pigmentation:

Masks - Although there’s no scientific evidence to prove facial masks are beneficial for the skin, it’s been a well-known remedy for hundreds of years. Those containing ingredients, such as cucumber and oatmeal have been a popular cure for redness. For cucumber, be sure to use it straight from the fridge, and for oatmeal, try pulverized oats.

Diet - Tea such as chamomile and green tea contain skin cell rejuvenating properties, so be sure to add a few cups into your diet. It also helps to shy away from spicy foods and drinks that are especially hot. Substitute these with fish oil supplements and probiotics. And don’t forget to eat plenty of natural foods, like fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin E.

Facials - Facials have been proven to improve skin tone and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Whether it be cranberry pomegranate or chocolate mousse, there are plenty of facial treatments that can hydrate your skin and return your pigmentation to normalcy.

If you find that home remedies aren’t curing your facial redness, turn to Tropicalaser of Long Island to give your skin a nourishing and cleansing boost. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Oily skin not only makes your face shiny and greasy looking, it can also increase your risk of acne and clogged pores. But just like with any other skin types, there are some things you can do to reduce skin problems.

Stylecraze has helped us round up some ways to keep your skin's oil production in control:

  • Say YES to cleansing. By keeping your skin clean helps prevent dirt buildup. Opt for gel-based or foaming cleansers if you have oily skin as well as those that are oil free.
  • Scrubbing is GOOD! By exfoliating once or twice a week, you can reduce the amount of dead skin cells and renew your skin’s surface.
  • WEEKLY face masks are effective. Adding a weekly face mask to your skin routine can help absorb all the excess oils.
  • Use ALCOHOL-FREE toner. Toning daily will help both eliminate excess oil and get rid of dirt on your skin.
  • DO NOT skip moisturizer. Oily skin needs hydration and moisturizing, and by stripping that will only encourage the production of oil. Look for water-based/oil-free moisturizers.
  • ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Gel-based sunscreen will leave your face matte and help fight the good fight against brown spots, pigmentation, and freckles.

Throughout the day, you may always want to keep some translucent powder handy to control oil. Oil blotting sheets are also a good backup!

Feel like the above tips aren’t helping? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Feeling a bit less than luminous lately? Truth be told, of the multitude of ways to make your skin look younger and fresher - many don’t take much more effort in your already daily routine.

Check out some of these simple skin tips you may not have heard:

Cheap-o lotions work: If you’re in a pinch, any moisturizer with glycerin, shea butter, or another basic hydrator will help your skin. For more frequent use, you’ll still want to go with dermatologist recommended creams that have ingredients designed to boost cell turnover, stimulate collagen grown, and banish DNA-damaging free radicals.

Remember, the sun is everywhere: Just because you are barely exposed to direct sunlight on your daily commutes doesn’t mean you are protected against photodamage. UVA rays can go through the windows of your office, home, and car! Recent studies have shown the damage that UVA can do to the skin on a daily basis. So don’t risk it, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen each and every day.

Keep your distance: The sun isn’t the only source of heat damaging to skin. Direct exposure to space heaters and fireplaces (two - three feet) can cause redness and breakdown of collagen. Bundle up and sit at least ten feet away from heat sources!

Drink water, wisely: Water of course is important for your health, and skin. But constantly pursing creates lines and agitates any existing ones around the mouth. Choose to sip water from a glass when you can or opt for a reusable bottle with a spout that you can easily squirt into your mouth.

It’s not too late to take care of your skin. Plus, with facials and microdermabrasion treatments offered here at Tropicalaser Long Island, you can help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin, contact us to learn about such services.

Facials are not only for when you decide to pamper yourself. While regularly cleaning your face is important - facials help in giving you a deeper clean, which is necessary for the health and wellness of your skin!

And we’re not talking about an at-home solution. Here’s why you should be getting professional facials regularly:

  1. Expert skin analysis is key in understanding your skin’s specific needs. As everyone’s needs are different, an esthetician can help in suggesting the best products for your home care routine as well as identify what is needed to treat any problems you may have.
  2. Professional strength exfoliation is important, especially with the unavoidable toxins that can cause our skin to look congested. Having it specifically catered to your skin type (decided on after your expert skin analysis), helps to better smooth your skin, increase cellular turnover, and break up skin discoloration.
  3. Deep Cleansing removes dirt and oil build up without drying out skin. It takes a professional esthetician to properly prepare and soften the skin before manual extractions can take place in an effective way. Proper cleansing means your pores will be refined and your complexion will look and feel rejuvenated.
  4. Anti-aging is an inevitable part of life, but getting regular facials can promote cell turnover and boost collagen production. Certain facials even utilize specific antioxidants and vitamins for anti-aging benefits! Ask us about our Firm Skin Acai Facial, its potent formula will leave behind a youthful complexion while firming and plumping the skin.
  5. Alleviating stress is necessary for your overall wellbeing. As studies have shown, stress can lead to unhealthy skin - so what better way to de-stress than by receiving a facial with a face, neck, and back massage in a peaceful relaxing environment! Restore balance to your mind AND complexion.

It’s time for a skin-tervention. You may not always be aware of it, but every day habits can easily have a negative impact on your skin. If you’re guilty of one of the below, time to make some adjustments - fast!

Popping pimples- It’s not uncommon to want to pop pimples but do keep in mind, squeezing them can actually make the infection go deeper! This major backfire can permanently enlarge pores. Can’t resist? Try washing your face with a washcloth - if the pimple is ready to pop, this pressure is all it needs to drain it.

Sleeping with makeup on- Not removing makeup before bed can clog pores and oil glands, resulting in acne. It can also cause premature aging as leaving your makeup on doesn’t let your skin recover from the damage it encountered during the day.

Not getting enough sleep- Sleep not only benefits our energy levels and metabolism but it also has serious effects on our skin. Sleep helps the body’s hydration rebalance. Beyond those dark, under-eye circles, lack of sleep can also cause skin dryness and visible wrinkles.

Washing your face with the wrong cleansers- Washing your face daily is important - as long as you’re using the correct soap. Those prone to pimples or that have oily skin initially may gravitate to cleansers or exfoliators that dry things out. Makes sense right? Wrong! These actually can strip the skin of all its GOOD oils and protective barrier. Instead go with a nourishing face wash.

Feel like the above daily habits have added years to your face? Treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin, contact us to learn about such services.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Whether you’re aware or not, plenty of us are sinful where our beauty regimens are concerned. While you may have your routine down to a science, fact is some faux pas may be foiling your efforts. See below for some common bad beauty habits and how to break them:

Sleeping on the Same Side of Your Face. While this may not be entirely in your control, do your best to change up your sleeping positions. Repeatedly snoozing on the same side of your face scrunches up the skin, which can cause fine lines to become permanently etched.

Rubbing Your Eyes. The eye area is the most sensitive area of the face. The more this thin skin is rubbed or pulled, the easier for it to slacken and fine lines to form. So handle with care!

Wearing Too Much Moisturizer. Keeping skin moisturized is important, but too much of it won’t be doing you any favors. Excess cream will be unable to absorb deeply enough into cellular tissue, thus clogging pores.

Drinking Through a Straw. Repeated facial expressions over time, like pursing your lips, can cause fine lines to form around your mouth. Solution? Drink directly from the glass, bottle, or can.

Cleaning Your Face with Hot Water. Hot temps lead to broken capillaries on the face. Capillary walls are super thin and elastic and are very reactive to temperature. Keep the balance - used lukewarm water for your daily cleansing ritual.

If you find yourself committing the above beauty sins it may be time to give your face a reboot. Treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. Take advantage of our Healthy Skin Promotion and get an organic facial and microdermabrasion treatment for just $99 ($250 value) through the end of August!

As much as we welcome the sun and any outdoor activities the summer brings, this season can actually be damaging to your body if you don’t take the proper precautions. See below to learn more about summer aging and what you can do to protect yourself, courtesy of Huffington Post:

The sun can cause photo aging to your skin
The sun’s UVA rays are particularly responsible for causing wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots - by breaking down collagen and other fibers that keep your skin plump and line-free. Stay safe by using an SPF of 15 or higher daily, even if you spend most of your time indoors. Truth is just walking to and from your car on even a cloud day can bring the risk of damaging UV rays.

Air conditioning can dry out skin
Air conditioning works by pulling moisture from the air to chill the room, but this dryness in the air can also dehydrate your skin. Prolonged exposure can even result in itching and flaking. Remedy this by keeping your body hydrated - drink plenty of fluids and be sure to moisturize.

Sun and swimming can damage your hair
Similar to what it does to the skin, sunlight breaks down the fibers in your hair - resulting in more split ends and breakage. Anyone who swims often or has dyed hair also know the damage that pools can cause to their locks. Protect your strands, wear a hat and avoid heat-styling as often as possible.

Squinting in the sun can cause wrinkles around the eyes
Any repeated facial expression can form lines and wrinkles, so stop crow’s feet in their tracks by shielding your eyes. Wear sunglasses with UV protection!

Sun damage can easily drain the skin’s moisture and weaken the collagen and elastin, zapping the skin of its youth and vigor. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin don’t forget to take advantage of our Healthy Skin Promotion and get an organic facial and microdermabrasion treatment for just $99 ($250 value) through the end of August!

While sunscreen, large brimmed hats, and protective sun gear all help in protecting our skin from the summer sun on the outside - did you know there’s way to protect internally as well? Simply take a trip to your local grocery store!

The below foods are known to help keep your skin safe from the sun’s harmful rays so be sure to include a variety in your diet this season:

Unheated Olive Oil - This popular oil is high in vitamin E and polyphenols which are both great for your skin. It has been known to reduce photo damage from UVB radiation and a number of recent studies have pointed out its protective benefits of applied topically as well. Sprinkle some olive oil on your salad or pour a little on your already cooked vegetables. Its an easy thing to add to your diet!

Walnuts - Walnuts can help prevent cell breakdown which will help your skin fight UV radiation. So grab a handful or even grind them up and add them to your other foods or smoothies!

Apples - Apples are full of polyphenols which are plant-based compounds that help regulate inflammation and the immune system. Just another reason to eat an apple a day!

Coffee & Tea - Coffee and tea are both antioxidants and are a source of polyphenols. A recent study has shown that consuming these drinks can help protect your skin from hyper-pigmented sunspots, so keep drinking your morning joe (or tea) to boost skin health!

Broccoli - Sulphorane is a compound found in broccoli that activates the skin’s defensive system when you are exposed to UV rays. Broccoli is also the vegetable with the highest count of polyphenols!

Basil - A popular go to kitchen herb - basil actually protects your eyes from UV light by helping filter it from the retina. This is because it contains zeaxanthin which is an antioxidant!

Looking for a simple way to boost your skincare? It could be as easy as - dare we say it - going makeup free! Even if you can’t imagine turning down cosmetics during the work week, experts say even just skipping product for 2 days over the weekend is enough to reap the benefits.

Still not sold? Here’s what going makeup free can do for your skin:

Allows Skin to Breathe - One of the best things we can do for our skin is expose it to fresh oxygen and free pores from clogging products. Let your skin take a break from its complex makeup regimen, it’ll promote clearer, healthier skin in the long run.

Aids Sensitive Skin - While makeup is convenient for hiding blemishes and imperfections, it can also be the root of the problem! Especially with all the ingredients found in different products, women with sensitive skin can find it difficult to find suitable brands.

Self confidence boost - Love the skin you’re in! Going makeup free really helps achieve that. Enjoy your natural beauty and let your makeup take the backseat for a day.

Time saver - Consider the time spent shopping for product, applying it properly, touching it up throughout the day, removing it at night… at the end of it all, a lot of time is spent fiddling through your makeup case. See how much time you can free up by giving your skin a makeup free holiday.

Once you decide to take your makeup break, be sure to give your skin a nourishing and cleansing boost with a facial from Tropicalaser of Long Island. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

While these last few days on Long Island haven’t been very ‘summery,’ we do know sunnier and hotter days will be upon us before we know it - is your skin prepared?

In honor of May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Memorial Day Weekend on the horizon, we wanted to share some must have tips for healthy summer skin:

Increase SPF use - Whether you are running errands or taking a short walk on your lunch break, the sun is something to me cautious of. Yes even those short bursts of sunlight can be detrimental to your skin. Protect yourself by adding a healthy layer of face protecting sunscreen to your morning beauty routine.

Choose the right lip product - Similarly to the above, make sure you are applying a lip product with an SPF of at least 15. Choose lip balms over glosses this season as balms tend to stay on your lips longer while hydrating more.

Increase water intake - And drinking water isn’t your only option! Popular summer foods like watermelon, leafy greens, and berries have a higher concentration of water to help you stay hydrated in the heat.

Get physical - In addition to the obvious health benefits, working out is good for the skin. Sweat, your body’s natural response to exercise, helps to regulate body temperature, releases trace amount of toxins, and loosens the dirt in your pores. What more? It increases circulation which in turns improves your skin’s appearance with a health glow.

Really get your skin ready for the new season by taking advantage of one of the many services offered here at Tropicalaser! Our microdermabrasion is ideal for soughing away dry, rough winter skin and our facials help to exfoliate and nourish- promoting a clear, well-hydrated and younger complexion.

We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

With wedding season upon us and summer vacations on the horizon, you don't want to regret not wearing that bikini or cocktail dress you've been excited to show off. That’s what we’re here for! It’s not too late to take advantage of one(or more) of the many services we offer here at Tropicalaser to give you an extra boost of confidence this summer:

Microdermabrasion: Sough away your dry, rough winter skin with a professional microdermabrasion treatment. This method of deep exfoliation refines the skin using micro crystals, allowing fresh collagen and cells to form over time.

Facials: A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it's given by an experienced, knowledgeable esthetician. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Cavi Lipo: Your non-surgical liposuction solution, Cavi-Lipo uses Ultrasound Cavitation to breakdown fat cells. The released fat is then metabolized through the liver and released by natural means. The great thing here is there is absolutely ZERO downtime following the treatment and is effective for all body areas where localized fat deposits or cellulite exists.

Laser Hair Removal: While waxing and shaving may be immediate solutions for short term hair removal, opting for laser hair removal will give you a permanent solution to your unwanted hair.  Our laser hair removal treatments work for any body area and for all skin types.

As you probably already know, eating a balanced diet is key for optimal health. Certain foods are great for oral hygiene while others can help beat chronic conditions like heart disease. There’s also a number of specific skin treats to give a boost of glowing good health to your complexion:

Foods with high antioxidant content: Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums are all fruits with the highest “total antioxidant capacity.” Antioxidants and other phytochemicals work to defend the skin against free radicals (like the kind formed from sun exposure). When you help protect skin cells from free radical damage, you also guard against premature aging.

Foods that deliver essential fatty acids: Essential fatty acids (like omega 3 and omega 6) are key for healthy cell membranes. Not only do cell membranes act as a barrier for harmful things but also a passageway to allow nutrients and waste to move in and out of the cell. They work to hold in water, so the stronger that barrier is the better your cells will hold moisture leaving you with plumber, younger looking skins. Foods include: salmon, walnuts, canola oil, and flax seed.

Green Tea: A study published in the Archives of Dermatology shows that whether taken orally or applied to the skin, green tea can reduce the risk of damage from the sun’s UV rays, thus reducing the risk of skin cancer. This wonder drink also has anti-inflammatory properties for overall skin health.

Herbs: According to a study in the International Journal of Epidemiology, consuming four or more herbs regularly (rosemary or thyme for ecample) was associated with up to a 60% reduced risk of melanoma. http://www.prevention.com/beauty/natural-beauty/25-best-foods-your-skin/rosemary

New year, new you! You have a fresh start, a blank slate, the perfect opportunity to leave those bad skin care habits behind. At the end of the day, your skin is something you’ll wear every day for the rest of your life. Make 2015 your best skin-care year yet!

With these below tips, we know you’ll get those lasting, radiant results you’ve been looking for:

Rest up: When you’re tired, you look tired. There’s no way around it. Your body needs its rest for a myriad of reasons, and puffy free eyes is one of them. Make the commitment to aim for 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night.

Wear sunscreen daily: It’s never to early or too late to defend your skin from the number one cause of aging - the sun and its UV rays. Many daily lotions, mineral makeups, and other products come equipped with SPF, so don’t think slopping on Banana Boat is your only option for protection!

Speaking of products… assess the ones you are using: If you aren’t seeing results, they may not be the best suited for what you need. All skins have different needs, thus selecting products formulated for dry, oil, or sensitive skin will yield a better outcome than selecting a product geared towards them all. Also, toss any products that are past their shelf life or any that have changed in color or consistency to avoid irritation.

Schedule a facial: The good news? We’ve got you covered on this tip. A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it's given by an experienced, knowledgeable esthetician. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

If you’re looking to schedule a facial on Long Island - give us a call today! Choose from our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, Cranberry Pomegranate Facial, Chocolate Mousse Hydration Facial, or the Firm Skin Acai Facial.

Give us a call at 516-307-1543 to answer any questions you may have and to schedule your FREE consultation with an expert Tropicalaser practitioner.
