As Summer turns to Fall, it’s necessary to adopt a new skincare regime. We like to think of it as tweaking your daily beauty routine. These small changes in the end can do wonders for the skin, especially when dry winters come around. If you’re unsure how to make this simple change, follow our quick guideline below:

Cleansers - Never hit the pillow without cleansing your skin. Makeup and all that junk you apply to your face, neck, and chest can clog pores and cause premature aging and breakouts. To improve the feel and appearance of your skin, use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Then, apply a dime-sized amount of your favorite cleanser (depending on your skin type). Gently massage away all that dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. Speaking of skin types: remember that cream cleansers are best for dry skin and gel formulas are more suited for oily complexions.

Exfoliators - We’re always big advocates on exfoliation, but if you want a healthy glow in dry winters, a facial scrub is a must-have skincare item. Not only do they help speed up skin cell production, but they also help clear away old skin cells. Not to mention, they unclog pores. Look for an exfoliator made from natural fruit enzymes - one that will dissolve dead skin cells without microbeads. Exfoliate about once or twice a week depending on how your skin type (dry skin needs once a week while oily combination skin needs three or four).

Moisturizer - Moisturizer is a year-round beauty essential, but finding the right one for fall and winter is the trick. Remember: you always need a base of SPF to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays. The air in winter is dry, so treat your skin accordingly - mainly by purchasing the right formula and applying twice daily. In the morning, rinse using a slightly lighter formula. Before bedtime, use a richer formula - one that contains collagen, elastin, and essential lipids to refresh your face and slow the aging process overtime.

We’re loving this list of other skincare essentials from Health Magazine!

For additional skincare tips and treatments, turn to Tropicalaser.  We offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated. In the end, all signs of roughness and dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion.

It’s no secret that warmer, more humid temperatures can cause more acne prone individuals to breakout in the midst of summer. Switch up your skincare routine to help fight acne and put your best face forward.

Clean Deep

The hot, humid weather can cause your oil glands to kick in big time, which ultimately leads to clogged pores. Beat it with a cleansing brush that can get deep into your skin - more so than your soaped up fingers can.

Apply Toner

Got ultimate oily skin? Use a toner. Tab a bit on in the morning and at night using a cotton pad. Gently apply to the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Don’t forget the neck and chest area! This method in conjunction with deep cleansing will fight pimples.

Treat Breakouts Immediately

When you see a pimple, don’t wait! Treat it with a thin layer of benzoyl peroxide spot treatment before bed and allow it to work overnight. The treatment will kill bacteria that causes zits to grow in the most unwanted places.

If these three tips just aren’t doing the trick for your skin, then pamper yourself with organic facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

There’s a lot of talk about which sunscreens to wear, which to avoid, and how often to apply them. As your Long Island laser clinic, skin care is of the utmost important to us, which is why we searched high and low to set the record straight and tell you what you need to know about protecting your skin:

Q: Is 100+ sunscreen really all that better than SPF 30?
A: To answer this question we must first know what SPF means. SPF refers to the “ability of a sunscreen to block UVB rays, which cause sunburns, but not UVA rays, which are more closely linked to deeper skin damage.”

While it’s logical to think that SPF 30 is greater than SPF 15, that’s not exactly how it works. SPF 15 blocks out about 94 percent of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks out 97 percent, and SPF 45 blocks out around 98 percent. After that, it becomes more of a marketing gimmick. Although higher SPF can better protect your skin against the harmful effects, the reality of these numbers only goes so far.

That being said, the best way to make sure you are thoroughly protected is to reapply often. In other words, don’t just think you can slab some on in the morning and be done with it. Protecting your skin means being consistent and educated about how sunscreen works.

Will you think twice about applying sunscreen this summer? We know we will!

Make a pact this year to protect your skin by reapplying at least once per hour. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

You were given a razor as a teen that likely came with no instructions at all. And as a result, you’ve probably experienced just as many bumps, razor burns, and cuts as the rest of us. Although these “uh oh” moments seem completely normal, the truth is they are likely a cause of shaving improperly. Below are a few of the most common shaving mistakes women make. Do any sound familiar?

Mistake #1. One of the most common mistakes women make is being too heavy-handed with the razor. Instead of getting a closer shave, you’re actually just causing burns. Go extra slow when using a new razor, especially around the less “fleshy” areas, such as your knees.

Mistake #2. Are you anxious to hit the shower and shave? Sit tight! Shaving right away without allowing your skin to hit the warm water for about 2 to 3 minutes can prevent your hair follicles from opening up. And as a result, you won’t be able to achieve that close shave you desire.

Mistake #3. Lathering up is key - we can’t stress it enough. Sure, it might seem easier (and quicker) to shave against dry skin, but in doing so you won’t provide the “slip” your skin needs to get the job done right.

Mistake #4. Exfoliating might sound like a luxury, but it truly is a necessity. Regular exfoliation not only encourages your hair to grow back properly, but it also reduces the odds of ingrown hairs.

Although the pains of shaving can be easily avoided, how do you like the sound of never having to pick up a razor again? Turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the warmer months arrive! Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

Craving your favorite comfort foods this winter? Aside from creamy soups and pasta dishes, there are many other alternatives that will not only comfort you but will also rejuvenate your skin and slow the aging process:

Nuts
Rich with unsaturated fats, there are a variety of nuts that can reduce the appearance of aging skin. This is due to the amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that it offers. So grab a handful of almonds and cashews on-the-go or add some to your favorite salad.

Sweet Potatoes
Swap out that baked potato for an even sweeter alternative. Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene, which not only gives them their orange color but also offers aging benefits. For example, it prevents the breakdown of collagen in your skin and also protects you from sun damage (note: this is not an alternative for sunscreen).

Chocolate
No more excuses needed! Contrary to popular belief, indulging in a bar of chocolate every now and again will not cause breakouts. In fact, the flavonoids found in dark chocolate can help protect your skin from sun damage.

Blueberries
One of the healthiest fruits that fights signs of aging. Packed with antioxidants, blueberries can fight inflammation that leads to unhealthy skin. Throw a handful into your morning bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothie for the most delicious and beneficial results!

Is a healthy diet not giving you the results you desire? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Feeling cursed with facial redness this winter? When the weather becomes dry as it is, it’s only natural that your skin will turn dry and flushed. In fact, many of us suffer from dry skin and redness during the cooler months. But luckily, there are a few simple remedies that can neutralize the skin’s pigmentation:

Masks - Although there’s no scientific evidence to prove facial masks are beneficial for the skin, it’s been a well-known remedy for hundreds of years. Those containing ingredients, such as cucumber and oatmeal have been a popular cure for redness. For cucumber, be sure to use it straight from the fridge, and for oatmeal, try pulverized oats.

Diet - Tea such as chamomile and green tea contain skin cell rejuvenating properties, so be sure to add a few cups into your diet. It also helps to shy away from spicy foods and drinks that are especially hot. Substitute these with fish oil supplements and probiotics. And don’t forget to eat plenty of natural foods, like fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin E.

Facials - Facials have been proven to improve skin tone and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Whether it be cranberry pomegranate or chocolate mousse, there are plenty of facial treatments that can hydrate your skin and return your pigmentation to normalcy.

If you find that home remedies aren’t curing your facial redness, turn to Tropicalaser of Long Island to give your skin a nourishing and cleansing boost. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Oily skin not only makes your face shiny and greasy looking, it can also increase your risk of acne and clogged pores. But just like with any other skin types, there are some things you can do to reduce skin problems.

Stylecraze has helped us round up some ways to keep your skin's oil production in control:

  • Say YES to cleansing. By keeping your skin clean helps prevent dirt buildup. Opt for gel-based or foaming cleansers if you have oily skin as well as those that are oil free.
  • Scrubbing is GOOD! By exfoliating once or twice a week, you can reduce the amount of dead skin cells and renew your skin’s surface.
  • WEEKLY face masks are effective. Adding a weekly face mask to your skin routine can help absorb all the excess oils.
  • Use ALCOHOL-FREE toner. Toning daily will help both eliminate excess oil and get rid of dirt on your skin.
  • DO NOT skip moisturizer. Oily skin needs hydration and moisturizing, and by stripping that will only encourage the production of oil. Look for water-based/oil-free moisturizers.
  • ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Gel-based sunscreen will leave your face matte and help fight the good fight against brown spots, pigmentation, and freckles.

Throughout the day, you may always want to keep some translucent powder handy to control oil. Oil blotting sheets are also a good backup!

Feel like the above tips aren’t helping? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Feeling a bit less than luminous lately? Truth be told, of the multitude of ways to make your skin look younger and fresher - many don’t take much more effort in your already daily routine.

Check out some of these simple skin tips you may not have heard:

Cheap-o lotions work: If you’re in a pinch, any moisturizer with glycerin, shea butter, or another basic hydrator will help your skin. For more frequent use, you’ll still want to go with dermatologist recommended creams that have ingredients designed to boost cell turnover, stimulate collagen grown, and banish DNA-damaging free radicals.

Remember, the sun is everywhere: Just because you are barely exposed to direct sunlight on your daily commutes doesn’t mean you are protected against photodamage. UVA rays can go through the windows of your office, home, and car! Recent studies have shown the damage that UVA can do to the skin on a daily basis. So don’t risk it, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen each and every day.

Keep your distance: The sun isn’t the only source of heat damaging to skin. Direct exposure to space heaters and fireplaces (two - three feet) can cause redness and breakdown of collagen. Bundle up and sit at least ten feet away from heat sources!

Drink water, wisely: Water of course is important for your health, and skin. But constantly pursing creates lines and agitates any existing ones around the mouth. Choose to sip water from a glass when you can or opt for a reusable bottle with a spout that you can easily squirt into your mouth.

It’s not too late to take care of your skin. Plus, with facials and microdermabrasion treatments offered here at Tropicalaser Long Island, you can help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin, contact us to learn about such services.

Even though spring is technically here - Long Island hasn’t been privy to much of the warm weather. So once the temps do start to heat up, your skin will likely be looking for some help in putting its best face forward:

Consider your cleansers. Warmer weather brings humidity, humidity and oil cleansers don’t mix. Time to swap out your products with something more lightweight instead.

Exfoliate. Dry, flaky skin is a popular problem this time of year. Look for an exfoliate that is is gentle and doesn’t inflame the skin.

Brighten up. Liven up a dull complexion with some brightening products! These are a great way to make your skin look fresher and brighter.

Lighten your moisture boost. Much like your oil cleanser, it’s time to swap any oil-based moisturizers for more lightweight options (like silicone and water based moisturizers).

Looking for quicker turn around time on that youthful glow? Consider contacting us for microdermabrasion treatment! Microdermabrasion is a skin-revitalizing treatment that helps repair skin that is damaged from the sun, scars, acne and the unwanted effects of aging.
