Losing belly fat isn’t just a summer thing - it’s a goal that many women (and men) struggle with at times. If you’ve been trying to switch up your diet and hit the gym more but still aren’t seeing the results, these might be the reasons:

You’re doing the wrong workout
Cardio workouts alone won’t help you slim down your waist. What you need is a balance of cardio strength training and weight resistance training. Muscle burns more calories than fat, which means you naturally burn more calories by having more muscle.

You’re eating too many processed foods
Refined grains like white bread, chips, and sugary drinks only increase inflammation in your body. Continuing to eat these processed foods will only slow the process of losing belly fat, so start incorporating more natural foods, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains which into your diet. They all have anti-inflammatory properties and can prevent belly bloat.

You’re aging
It’s not just a myth - as you mature, your body changes the way it gains and loses weight. Your metabolism slows and you will experience menopause. In menopause, the production of estrogen and progesterone slows. The testosterone levels start to drop, but at a slow rate. This causes women to hold weight in their bellies. You can, however, fight this by doing a combination of weight and cardiovascular training.

If a healthy diet and exercise isn’t helping you achieve the body you want and deserve, Cavi-Lipo can help! Ask us about our cavi-lipo treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Winter is not a girl’s best friend, which is why giving your skin a little extra TLC is essential. Here are 10 tips we recommend to help you get a radiant winter’s glow:

1. Wash with lukewarm water as this will avoid the stripping of your natural oils.
2. Moisturize immediately after bathing. It needs this especially after washing up.
3. Choose the right moisturizer - one that is nourishing and doesn’t have petroleum based ingredients (which can further dry your skin in winter).
4. Install a humidifier in your home to put even more moisture back into your skin while you’re sleeping.
5. Drink more water instead of hot cocoa because your skin needs extra hydration from the inside, out.
6. Exfoliate to eliminate dead cells, especially on our hands. Find an exfoliating mask you can use on both your hands and face and moisturize immediately afterwards.
7. Switch up your cleanser for a more hydrating version that contains moisturizing ingredients.
8. Eat foods high in water. Winter makes us want to turn to comfort foods, but opting for apples, oranges, tomatoes, and zucchini can support the healthy production of collagen and elastin.
9. Avoid toxins and irritants such as wool and chemical-laden detergents, which can bother sensitive skin.
10. Try making a DIY hydrating mask using ingredients such as avocado, honey, yogurt, olive, and jojoba oil.

Don’t forget to pamper yourself with one of Tropicalaser’s organic hydrating facials! All signs of roughness and  winter dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Haunted houses should be the only thing making you scream this Halloween, not your monthly waxing appointment. While the pain of waxing is something most men and women have come to terms with, take a minute to learn about some of the ways waxing may be harming your body before scheduling your next appointment.

Burns. Nearly every woman who has tried a ‘home wax kit’ has a horror story. The most common problem? Burning yourself. Keeping the wax just a degree or two too hot can burn your skin off, leaving it red and inflamed.

Irritation. Remember the first time you had your eyebrows waxed? You expected to look in the mirror and see Brooke Shields, but instead you just saw red, blotchy skin that had swelled to twice its normal size. Even though the redness usually goes away within 24 hours, waxing can still leave your skin dry, sensitive to the touch and itchy - especially when done on more sensitive areas, like bikini line and underarms.

Infection. Tearing out hair from its follicle is not only painful, but leaves behind hundreds of small open wounds. With all those open wounds, it’s no surprise that you’re more susceptible to infection after getting waxed. “Pulling the hairs out of those areas increases the risk that tiny skin tears will get bacteria in them that was never meant to be inside the skin. It can cause surface infections and even deeper cellulitis in some cases,” said Dr. Jessica Krant, M.D., an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology.

Scarring. Years of waxing (especially if not done properly) can leave skin permanently irritated, wrinkled or scarred.

Ingrown hairs. Anytime you pull a hair out by the root, a new one takes its place a few weeks later. New thin and weak hairs can get stuck under your skin if it can’t make it to the surface - leaving you with an ingrown hair. Not only are they irritating and unsightly, but can become infected if not treated or removed.

Still want that smooth, just shaved feeling all year long, but without the harmful effects of waxing? Try laser hair removal for a painless, long lasting solution to unwanted hair. Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

Let’s just admit it: winter isn’t our skin’s best friend.

By now, you might be happy that  your air isn’t frizzing up, but what about your skin? For most of us, winter means cracked hands, scaly legs, and dry cheeks. What you need to combat the lack of moisture is a new beauty routine. Grab these 7 basic skin care products to help you feel better in your skin:

1. Moisturizer: You will need to moisturize - a lot more than you did over the summer. First, find out your specific skin type, whether you’re dry or oily/dry combination.Apply within a few minutes of bathing to help trap the moisture.

2. Vaseline: Vaseline will be your new best friend. This petroleum jelly-based product can be used for anything from a lip balm to a foot cream. It also moistens your feed, elbows, and knees.

3. Aquaphor: Aquaphor isn’t much different than Vaseline. It’s like your secret ingredient to skin care therapy, especially for dry under-eye patches.

4. Humidifier: A humidifier might take up more space in your bedroom, but for what it’s worth, a humidifier can hyper-hydrate your skin while you sleep and prevent that pesky, itchy outer layer.

5. Warm Water: Taking a hot shower is tempting when the temps outside are freezing, but before you turn that handle, let’s get one fact straight: hot water removes the natural oils from your skin, removing natural oils and making your skin even more dry. If you’re willing to sacrifice your beautiful, healthy skin go for hot, but if you’re looking to avoid looking scaly, then warm water it is!

6. Cream Cleanser: Just before bed and in the morning, you’ll need a creamy cleanser to moisturize the skin, remove your makeup, and avoid irritating your skin at the same time.

7. Toothbrush: A toothbrush will be your guide to soft, luscious lips this winter. Why? Because scraping off excess skin with bristles is a friendly cure for your chapped lips.

Looking for more winter skincare tips and treatments? Turn to Tropicalaser.  We offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated. In the end, all signs of roughness and dryness will be smoothed away to leave a polished and glowing complexion. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

In today’s world where many women and men are looking to remove unwanted body hair, it’s not uncommon to opt for laser hair removal. In fact, many are turning to this skincare treatment because it’s less time consuming and is financially worth it in the long run. But how do you know when to start such treatments? At Tropicalaser, we believe that fall is the perfect time to start your laser hair removal journey, and here’s why:

Save time and money
Think about the time and items you spend money on to beautify your legs, underarms, and bikini area - razors, blades, conditioning soap, shaving cream, waxing kits, and aftershave. American women who shave will spend an average of ten thousand dollars and nearly two entire months of their lives managing unwanted hair! A woman who waxes once or twice per month can spend anywhere around twenty-three thousand dollars over the course of her lifetime - and in modern day, the same applies to men. Although laser hair removal is more money upfront, there is something to be said about saving money (and hours) in the long run.

Fall is perfect time to start
The average woman or man needs about 4 to 8 weeks between laser hair removal treatments. And approximately 4 to 6 treatments are needed, depending on location and hair type. With the time you need in between and the amount of sessions required, your skin will be silky smooth just in time for next beach season!

Looking for a way to get rid of unwanted hair for good before next bikini season? Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

You’ve heard it a handful of times: drinking water helps you lose weight. But how, why, and is it true? In short, yes, drinking water really can help you slim down. However,  maybe not for the same reasons you think:

Drink before you eat
Water is an appetite suppressant, so drinking a glass before meals can make you feel fuller and make you less likely to binge. In fact, WebMD states that “drinking water before meals results in an average reduction in intake of 75 calories per meal”. That means you’d lose about eight pounds per year just because you’re drinking more water!

Drink it cold
Drink more water, and drink it cold. WebMD also claims that drinking ice cold water boosts your metabolism because your body needs to work harder to warm it up, leading you to burn more calories (hence, lose weight).

Drink it often
If you’re also hitting the gym to slim down, make sure you’re especially drinking more water. This natural fluid helps prevent muscle cramps and keeps joints lubricated, meaning you can work out longer and harder - plus, it feels refreshing post-workout.

If following the rules of drinking water and working out aren’t giving you the results you desire, then turn to the Cavi Lipo experts at Tropicalaser. Ask us about our treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

As Summer turns to Fall, it’s necessary to adopt a new skincare regime. We like to think of it as tweaking your daily beauty routine. These small changes in the end can do wonders for the skin, especially when dry winters come around. If you’re unsure how to make this simple change, follow our quick guideline below:

Cleansers - Never hit the pillow without cleansing your skin. Makeup and all that junk you apply to your face, neck, and chest can clog pores and cause premature aging and breakouts. To improve the feel and appearance of your skin, use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Then, apply a dime-sized amount of your favorite cleanser (depending on your skin type). Gently massage away all that dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. Speaking of skin types: remember that cream cleansers are best for dry skin and gel formulas are more suited for oily complexions.

Exfoliators - We’re always big advocates on exfoliation, but if you want a healthy glow in dry winters, a facial scrub is a must-have skincare item. Not only do they help speed up skin cell production, but they also help clear away old skin cells. Not to mention, they unclog pores. Look for an exfoliator made from natural fruit enzymes - one that will dissolve dead skin cells without microbeads. Exfoliate about once or twice a week depending on how your skin type (dry skin needs once a week while oily combination skin needs three or four).

Moisturizer - Moisturizer is a year-round beauty essential, but finding the right one for fall and winter is the trick. Remember: you always need a base of SPF to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays. The air in winter is dry, so treat your skin accordingly - mainly by purchasing the right formula and applying twice daily. In the morning, rinse using a slightly lighter formula. Before bedtime, use a richer formula - one that contains collagen, elastin, and essential lipids to refresh your face and slow the aging process overtime.

We’re loving this list of other skincare essentials from Health Magazine!

For additional skincare tips and treatments, turn to Tropicalaser.

People have different interpretations of taking care of your body - eating right, sleeping well, meditating, taking good care of your skin - the list goes on! While there’s no right or wrong answer to what it means to take care of your body, there are two core practices that can inspire you to fall in love all over ahead - especially if you’ve been neglecting what’s important to you. What it comes down to is taking good care of your body:

Find the right diet
If you want to fall in love with your body, you need to fuel it well. And we don’t mean adding a few healthy meals here and there. What we mean is adopting a new lifestyle and diet. Toss away the old junk in your pantry and fill it with delicious, nutritious snacks instead, such as dark chocolate covered almonds. It also means filling your fridge with your favorite produce. The more healthy foods you put in front of you, the more inclined you are to eat them. You know what they say - walk around the grocery store, not in the middle of it! You’ll find the most healthy foods around the perimeter.

Adopt an exercise routine
Falling in love with your body isn’t always about looks - it’s also about feeling good. While maintaining a healthy diet is the first step, the second step is to exercise right. When you exercise, you gain more energy, more confidence, you get in touch with your inner self, and you feel stronger (both mentally and physically). It takes discipline, but if you can find even a few minutes to walk every day or pair up with a friend, you’ll be able to adopt a fitness routine that makes you feel better than ever.

While we believe that diet and exercise can boost your self confidence, we know that sometimes you’re looking for a little more. If you’re looking to slim down, turn to the Cavi Lipo experts at Tropicalaser. Ask us about our treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. It may be the end of summer this week but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of grooming hair down there for all the ladies out there. While some women opt for waxing the area, shaving is still the most popular form of grooming, according to a study published in JAMA Dermatology. Unfortunately, one thing that always goes hand in hand while shaving your pubic hair are bumps, redness, and irritation.

Want to learn the right way to shave in order to avoid these pesky side effects? Follow these steps:

Dont Skip Pre-Shave Prep

Has it been awhile since your last shave (no judgement here!)? Start by trimming your hair first before taking a razor to it. Next, soak the bikini area with warm water for 10 minutes to help prevent razor burn..this will soften your skin which makes it easier to remove hair. Lastly, exfoliate and moisturize your skin. Exfoliating once a week will help remove dead skin and extend the life of your razor blades.

Buy The Right Razor

You should invest in two different razors - one for your bikini area and one for your legs and underarms. The bikini area is sensitive which means it needs a razor that is less harsh on the skin - two to three blades max.

Shave Smart

DO NOT shave against the direction of hair growth. By shaving in the direction that your hair grows you prevent razor burn as well as ingrown hairs. Your blade should feel smooth over your hair, if you feel a lot of pressure and resistance, you’re pressing too hard.

Post-Shave Rinse And Moisturize

Hold a cold compress to the area for about 10 minutes to prevent irritation. The last step is to apply moisturizer. Try to stay away from heavy creams with perfume and alcohol ingredients. Try a moisturizer with aloe vera or lavender oil to help sooth the area.

Looking for a way to get rid of your pubic hair for good? Instead of shaving and waxing try laser hair removal. Tropicalaser is one of the leaders in Laser Hair Removal, with many locations for your convenience. We have the best trained Medical Staff, the cleanest facilities, and the latest Equipment.

Watermelon Fruit Pizza and Yogurt
Sounds like a combination of many things, but this treat is the closest thing to healthy and delicious!

This sweet satisfaction is both creamy and nutritious.
Preparation:

  • Top each bittersweet chocolate square (you need 8 ¼ ounce squares) with ½ teaspoon nut butter of your choice (almond, cashew, or pistachio).
  • You will need 4 teaspoons of nut butter for this. 5 minutes and you’re ready to dig in!

Chocolate Avocado Shake
A shake recipe that finally has the one ingredient we can’t live without!
Preparation:

  • You will need: 1 ripe avocado, 1 ½ cups vanilla almond milk or other nondairy milk, 3 tablespoons brown sugar or maple syrup, 2 tablespoons nondairy semisweet chocolate chips (melted), 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and 12 ice cubes.
  • Scoop avocado into a blender. Add milk, cocoa, brown sugar (or maple syrup), melted chocolate and vanilla
  • Pulse and puree until smooth
  • Add ice and puree until thick and frosty
  • Microwave chocolate until melted

Pinterest is full of random hacks from cooking to shopping and even shaving! We love coming across little tips that can help us ladies avoid the pain of shaving. Here are our top favorites:

Getting a perfect underarm shave:
First you need to invest in a good razor, finding one that is soft yet efficient. Make sure you have a gentle touch as to not irritate the skin. Prepare by shaving when you are under the shower or right after you finish it to avoid injury. Move your razor in a c-shaped motion or angle as opposed to up and down (since the skin grows in many directions there). On top of that, you will need a great lotion - one that can remove the unpleasant irritation and leave your skin feeling silky smooth.

Making bikini line shaving less miserable:
BuzzFeed recommends trimming your hair down there before shaving. Keep the hair just a few centimeters long., Once you’re ready to shave, relax in the shower about 5 to 10 minutes beforehand to open up the pores. Lastly, get into the habit of exfoliating your skin before you start shaving. “This primes the area so you can remove the hair more easily.”

Shaving your legs properly:
When it comes to shaving your legs, don’t skimp on the cream. It’s incredibly important to hydrate your hairs with a sensitive shaving cream formula before you just go at it. You can also apply baby oil before the shaving cream to prevent razor burn in the shower.

If you’re tired of the daily shave, you might want to consider switching to an alternative solution - laser hair removal. Laser Hair Removal is designed so that you never have to purchase shaving and waxing supplies again! At Tropicalaser, we will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

Laser hair removal has become one of the most popular, non-invasive treatments among both men and women. While most people can be a candidate for this procedure, there are a few signs you’ll want to look out for. We recommend the following:

Your skin is not prone to pigmentation

The most common side effects of laser hair removal are skin irritation and discoloration and pigment changes. If you’re one whose skin gets pigmented easily, you might want to talk to your clinic about testing to see how your skin reacts to the treatment.

You are free of skin conditions

Generally speaking, laser hair removal is not recommended for people with skin disease or infection. Part of the reason being that some medications you take for your skin conditions, such as isotretinoin, could make you photosensitive. Inform your doctor about such conditions before your treatment.

You have dark hair

LHR works best when the pigment in your hair absorbs the light energy of the laser being used. As a result, it heats up the hair and causes small blood vessels that feeds the hair to close. Without blood flow, the hair cannot regrow, which is what makes laser hair removal so successful.

Like the sound of never having to shave, bleach or wax again? Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. As the days get shorter and your skin gets a little drier, it’s time to switch up your skincare routine, prep your complexion for cool weather, and repair sun damage. From sunscreen to soap, here are a few tips we recommend:

Switch up your sunscreen

Summer heat and humidity can be heavy on the skin, so you’re forced to give your complexion a break by lightening up on your sunscreen by switching to a gel or liquid formula. This fall, you don't have to worry about looking or feeling too greasy if you choose a creamier one.

Layer up your moisturizer

The same goes for your moisturizer. When the temperatures outside are hot and humid, you have to choose a lightweight product. But in the fall, your skin will start to dry up, leading you to need a slightly heavier moisturizer than you did last month.

Ditch the soap

Soap can make your skin dry out easily, so choose a hydrating cleanser or creamy body wash that will leave your skin feeling silky smooth all through the fall and winter months.

Get a facial

Just because summer is almost over, doesn’t mean you should forget about exfoliating and clarifying. In fact, you should be doing it more as the weather dries up! At Tropicalaser, we offer a wide variety of facials such as our Pear & Poppy Seed Polishing Facial, designed to return clarify and luminosity to the skin as dead cells are exfoliated.

With all the shaving you do on a weekly basis, we took it upon ourselves to dig up some of the most interesting facts on the internet about the way your hair follicles work (and some other cool info you probably don’t know). Many of these surprised us as well!

  1. Shaving, tweezing, or waxing does not cause hair to grow back thicker or fuller (but it still is a hassle)
  2. When saturated with water, the strength of a single strand of hair is approximately ⅓ to ½ less than the strength of dry hair, making it much easier to shave.
  3. The average person has about 615 hairs per square centimeter.
  4. The first safety razor was patented in 1901.
  5. Shaving cream was only made for men until the industry specifically targeted women in 1986.
  6. Nearly 70% of American women prefer a clean-shaven man.
  7. There are nearly 5 million hair follicles covering the human body.
  8.  The odds for damaging the skin increase significantly with an older, blunt blade.
  9. Shaving in the direction of hair growth will reduce the blade's friction with the skin.
  10. Body hair usually grows out from an individual’s skin at a 30 to 60 degree angle.
  11. Hair grows faster during the day than at night.

Wouldn’t you prefer to be easily hair-free? Most women wish they could remove bikini, underarm, leg, and facial hair forever, which is why Tropicalaser offers Laser Hair Removal treatments for you!

Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. It’s no secret that warmer, more humid temperatures can cause more acne prone individuals to breakout in the midst of summer. Switch up your skincare routine to help fight acne and put your best face forward.

Clean Deep

The hot, humid weather can cause your oil glands to kick in big time, which ultimately leads to clogged pores. Beat it with a cleansing brush that can get deep into your skin - more so than your soaped up fingers can.

Apply Toner

Got ultimate oily skin? Use a toner. Tab a bit on in the morning and at night using a cotton pad. Gently apply to the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Don’t forget the neck and chest area! This method in conjunction with deep cleansing will fight pimples.

Treat Breakouts Immediately

When you see a pimple, don’t wait! Treat it with a thin layer of benzoyl peroxide spot treatment before bed and allow it to work overnight. The treatment will kill bacteria that causes zits to grow in the most unwanted places.

If these three tips just aren’t doing the trick for your skin, then pamper yourself with organic facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island! A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Smooth skin has become an obsession for many people - shaving, waxing, threading - doing everything one can to remove that unwanted patch of hair. But all that money adds up, which is why laser hair removal is so convenient. Sure, it costs more money upfront, but in the long run, the money savings and aesthetic results are well worth it!

If you’re thinking about biting the bullet and getting laser hair removal treatments, chances are you have a few questions. We’ve got your answers!

The best candidate
Laser hair removal doesn’t work on all skin types. In fact, it has been proven to work best on those with light skin and dark hair.

How long it takes
Laser hair removal takes several sessions to take full effect. Ask your laser hair removal clinic to assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you and figure out how long it will take. Most patients see the greatest results after 4 to 6 sessions.

The pain
By now you might be wondering if it hurts. The truth is, the treatment causes only minimal discomfort- many patients say that it feels similar to the snap of a rubber band. At Tropicalaser, our advanced laser has a built-in cooling system, but ice packs can also be applied pre and post treatment to further lessen any discomfort.

After effects
After the treatment you may see some slight redness or very occasionally localized swelling, but this usually subsides within the first 24 hours after the hair removal session.

Like the sound of never having to shave, bleach or wax again? Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

When was the last time you said, “I’ll start tomorrow?”

Every day is a chance for new beginnings - especially when you’re feeling the Monday Blues. Everyone does - but there’s a difference between those who let it defeat them, and those who defeat it. Whether it be for your health, your diet, or your professional or personal life, there is no excuse to stop fighting for you! But for all those “if” and “buts”, we’re here to whisper that friendly reminder in your ear that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. Here are your Monday Mantras (for today and every day):

1. When you’re afraid or lack the energy to start something new.
“Every journey begins with a single step.”

2. When you feel like you can’t go farther.
“Know your limitations and then defy them.”

3. When you feel like skipping a workout.
“Exercise gives me energy and makes me feel happy.”

4. When you’re muscles feel fatigued ( don’t give up!)
“I am powerful, I am unstoppable.”

5. When you’re having a tough day at work.
“Strive for progress, not perfection.”

6. When your day couldn’t be going any worse (it can).
“Clear your mind of ‘can’t’.”

7. When you put your dreams aside and stay in your comfort zone.
“This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it.”

8. When you’re feeling fearful.
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

9. When someone tries to bring you down and question your efforts.
“I’m doing this for me.”

10. When the going gets tough.
“Breathe through it.”

We love that you're feeling motivated! No matter what aspect of  your life you decide to improve on, keeping these 10 mantras in mind is key. But as Long Island’s licensed skincare and Cavi Lipo experts, we know that sometimes all the diet and exercise in the world doesn’t give you the aesthetic goals you have in mind. Ask us about our cavi-lipo treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Most of us women can agree: achieving a smooth shave isn’t easy. In fact, sometimes it feels impossible - especially when you’re rushing out in the morning. But with a few quick tips, you might be able to change some of your shaving habits:

Skip the single blade
Many women are guilty more often than not of using single blade disposable razors. Single blades are not made to reach all hair in every angle, especially under the knee and around the ankles. For a good, close shave, you’ll need to invest in a 4 to 5 blade razor whose blade head you can change time and time again when it becomes dull.

Shaving first thing
Another common mistake is waking up and immediately reaching for your razor. The truth is, when we sleep at night, our legs swell, causing the hair to retreat back into their follicles. Therefore, shaving right after you wake up only makes for an incomplete shave in which you’ll find yourself having to shave again later in the day. So instead, shave either right before bed or wait a good twenty to thirty minutes before attacking your stubble.

Grooming with dry legs
Shaving dry is a big no-no for us, gals! Not everyone has time in the morning to wait to shave, but trust us - if you give yourself a few extra minutes to lather up with a conditioning shaving cream, the results will be night and day.

When all’s said and done, shaving is undoubtedly a hassle - but laser hair removal isn’t! If you’re ready to bite the bullet and start your laser hair removal treatments to banish hair for good, give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation.

Every summer, we hear the same lecture about SPF. But sunscreen isn’t the only way to keep your skin safe this season! From June through September, you skin will undergo many changes, so it’s important to plan your skincare regimen accordingly. Here are a few tips we recommend:

1. Change Up Your Diet
Did you know that eating the right foods can make it more difficult for your skin to burn? That’s right! Knowing what foods will positively impact your skin can help you protect you. Try flaxseed oil, salmon, and walnuts - all packed with plenty of nutrients. And don’t forget fruit and vegetables to keep yourself hydrated.

2. Keep Your Pores Clear
Hot and humid temperatures can bring about acne and clogged pores, especially if you’re using your heavy moisturizer from the winter. Switch things up by choosing a lightweight oil-free moisturizer starting now and through September. It’s also important to exfoliate your skin twice a week to clear out your pores from any winter skin layers.

3. Reverse Signs of Aging
Most of us know that sun damage can speed up the aging process. But did you know it’s possible to reverse the damage? Treating prior skin damage involves topical medications that “lighten hyper-pigmentation and treat precancerous cells”. So choose products that contain glycolic acid to help minimize signs of aging and decrease your chances of squamous-cell cancers.

Make a promise to yourself this summer to protect your skin in all the ways you can. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island!

Ready to drop the razor and invest in laser hair removal? From price to effectiveness, there are probably many questions you have about laser hair removal. As your Long Island laser hair removal specialists, we’ve got your answers:

How does it work?
Laser hair removal works by focusing laser light at the base of hair follicles, causing them to slow and stop growth. The laser is attracted to dark pigment in hair (called melanin). Using melanin, the laser energy moves down to the root of the hair follicle where it disperses as thermal energy.

Who makes a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal works on both facial and body hair, but it isn’t necessarily effective for everyone. The laser targets the dark pigment present in some hairs but isn’t as effective on blonde, white, or grey hair.

Is laser hair removal permanent?
Approximately 80 to 95 percent of lasered hair is permanently gone after the recommended number of treatments (usually six).

Are there any side effects?
While most people experience no side effects at all, a few might experience short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin. However, you are fully able to return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, meaning there is no downtime involved.

Is it expensive?
You might think laser hair removal costs more money upfront, but just think how much money you’ll save on razors, shaving creams, special soaps, waxing, etc. over years and years.

To learn more about laser hair removal here.

Ready to put your razor down and start your laser hair removal treatments? Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. Tomorrow marks the start of Independence Day weekend! If you’re planning on taking a drive down to the beach, make sure you practice safe sun. In other words, avoid making these four common sunscreen mistakes:

Mistake #1: Choosing sunscreen with toxic ingredients

Sunscreen can help protect your skin from UV damage, but some won’t protect you from harmful ingredients, like methylisothiazolinone (MI). MI is a potent allergen that has been linked to painful rashes Other harmful ingredients include Retinyl palmitate and vitamin A, which believe it or not can actually cause damage to the skin once exposed to the sun.

Mistake #2: Not applying enough

We’re not talking not reapplying, but rather not applying a thick coat. Product testers recommend using a thick coat to the skin to determine its SPF. That being said, don’t be afraid to slather it on! For adults, dermatologists suggest one ounce to cover exposed skin.

Mistake #3: Going for SPF 50+

Contrary to popular belief, choosing an SPF over 50 offers a poor balance between UVA and UVB protection. Many also believe that the higher the SPF, the less they need to reapply - this is untrue. So don’t be mislead by the number. Instead, stick to an SPF no higher than 50 and reapply at least every two hours.

Mistake #4: Using expired sunscreen

Sunscreens age just like anything else. And when you expose it to polar temperatures (bringing it to the beach and then store in a cool place at home), the formulation can separate in its bottle. As a result, the sunscreen won’t cover your skin in the thick way it’s made to do. You’ll be safer by shaking sunscreens before applying and discarding products after their expiration date.

At Tropicalaser, we believe that pampering yourself and taking good care of your skin is all part of feeling good in your body - and that means using sunscreen properly! We also offer several treatments including laser hair removal, cavi lipo, and organic facials to help you keep your skin and body healthy and happy!

There’s a lot of talk about which sunscreens to wear, which to avoid, and how often to apply them. As your Long Island laser clinic, skin care is of the utmost important to us, which is why we searched high and low to set the record straight and tell you what you need to know about protecting your skin:

Q: Is 100+ sunscreen really all that better than SPF 30?
A: To answer this question we must first know what SPF means. SPF refers to the “ability of a sunscreen to block UVB rays, which cause sunburns, but not UVA rays, which are more closely linked to deeper skin damage.”

While it’s logical to think that SPF 30 is greater than SPF 15, that’s not exactly how it works. SPF 15 blocks out about 94 percent of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks out 97 percent, and SPF 45 blocks out around 98 percent. After that, it becomes more of a marketing gimmick. Although higher SPF can better protect your skin against the harmful effects, the reality of these numbers only goes so far.

That being said, the best way to make sure you are thoroughly protected is to reapply often. In other words, don’t just think you can slab some on in the morning and be done with it. Protecting your skin means being consistent and educated about how sunscreen works.

Will you think twice about applying sunscreen this summer? We know we will!

Make a pact this year to protect your skin by reapplying at least once per hour. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island!

You hear it all the time: you should be exercising 30 minutes a day, everyday. But what if you lack the motivation to get out and get going? Research shows that less than half of all American adults actually meet these minimum goal. It’s obvious you’re not the only one struggling, so what we could all use is a change in perspective. So here are five tips to help you find a fitness plan you will love:

Think back to yesteryear
Remember activities you enjoyed as a kid? What would happen if you got back into those exercises. For example, maybe you took swimming lessons, rode your bike, joined a bowling league. All of these fitness plans and more are perfectly acceptable (and helpful) for your new fitness goals.

Ask a friend for help
Team up with a close friend who has similar fitness goals. This time, it’s OK to lean on someone for support - both of you probably need each other just the same. Ask to join a class together or simply go for evening strolls at your nearest park. You’ll be glad you asked and so will they!

Tune in to your favorite music
Make an awesome playlist with some of your favorite tunes. You don’t have to take exercise so seriously - find music you love and jam out as you exercise (it’ll motivate you to run faster and longer). But don’t take our word for it - see for yourself!

Know that you can make the change
Some people think it’s all about genetics. And while there is some truth that weight gain is partly determined by genetics, people who take this connection to heart more seriously are less likely to eat well and exercise. Remember, it’s all about the mindset. Whatever you put your energy into, you will accomplish.

Enjoy the process
You need to enjoy the process more than the outcome. If you only focus on the end result and forget to live in the moment, you’ll be less motivated to hit your goals. So instead of focusing how you’re going to fit into that swimsuit or those new pair of shorts,  set goals about the process of working out (such as maintaining your heart rate, focusing on proper form, and just having a good time).

If you’re feeling motivated but just aren’t seeing the results you desire, Tropicalaser can help! Ask us about our cavi-lipo treatments to see how they can benefit you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Slimming down for summer? They say your best bod starts in the kitchen, which means skipping out on takeout and whipping up a few delicious recipes instead. If salad is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dieting, think again! Here are three mouth-watering and nutritious recipes you can prepare and take with you to work on the daily:

Chicken & White Bean Salad
Ingredients:
Dressing

  • 1 medium clove garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup white-wine vinegar or red-wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Salad

  • 1 15-ounce can cannellini or other white beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 1/2 cups diced cooked chicken breast (see Tips)
  • 2 cups diced zucchini and/or summer squash (about 2 small)
  • 1 1/2 cups diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced ricotta salata, halloumi or feta cheese
  • 1/3 cup chopped, well-drained, oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil, plus whole basil leaves
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste (optional)
  • 2 cups torn escarole or romaine lettuce
  • 2 cups torn radicchio leaves

Directions:

For vinaigrette: Peel the garlic and smash with the side of a chef’s knife. Next, use a fork to mash the garlic with 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl. Whisk in 5 tablespoons oil. Add 6 tablespoons orange juice, vinegar and mustard. Whisk until well blended. Whisk up 4 tablespoons more juice for a more mild flavor. Set aside at room temperature.

For Salad: Combine beans, chicken, zucchini, celery, cheese, and sundried tomatoes in a large bowl until well blended. Add chopped basil and ¾ cup vinaigrette and toss. Taste and season with salt and pepper if desired.

Smoky Corn & Black Bean Pizza
Ingredients:

  • 1 plum tomato, diced
  • 1 cup canned black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup fresh corn kernels, (about 2 ears)
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1 pound prepared whole-wheat pizza dough
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, preferably smoked mozzarella

Directions:

  1. Preheat grill to medium.
  2. Combine tomato, beans and corn in a medium bowl. Sprinkle cornmeal onto a large baking sheet. Stretch dough into a 12-inch circle and lay on top of the cornmeal (coating the entire underside of the doug).
  3. Transfer the crust from the baking sheet to the grill. Next, close the lid and cook until the crust is puffed and lightly browned on the bottom (about 4 to 5 minutes).
  4. Using a large spatula, flip the crust. Spread barbecue sauce on it and quickly sprinkle with the tomato mixture and cheese. Close the lid; grill until the cheese is melted and the bottom of the crust is browned (4 to 5 minutes).

Chicken & Blueberry Pasta Salad
Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, trimmed of fat
  • 8 ounces whole-wheat fusilli or radiatore
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated lime zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Place chicken in a skillet or saucepan and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer gently until cooked through (10 to 12 minutes). Transfer the chicken to a cutting board to cool. Shred into bite-size strips.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook pasta until just tender, about 9 minutes or according to package directions. Drain and place in a large bowl.
  3. Meantime, place oil and shallot in a small skillet and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until softened and golden brown (2 to 5 minutes). Add broth, feta, and lime juice and cook. Stir occasionally until the feta begins to melt (1 to 2 minutes).
  4. Add the chicken to the bowl with the pasta. Add the dressing, blueberries, thyme, lime zest and salt and toss until combined.

Cuts and burns are common - especially when shaving your underarms. That oh-so-sensitive area we so desperately want to smoothen out is tricky. If you’re struggling to achieve a close shave, here are a few tips we suggest:

Schedule a shaving routine
Knowing when the shave is just as important as using the right type of razor. You can use the best razor on the market, but if you shave right before hitting the beach or going for a swim, you could be setting yourself up for some major razor burn and chafing. Try shaving the night before (or at least a few hours before) to allow your skin time to repair.

Skip the soap
Don’t underestimate the sensitivity of your underarm skin. You might be able to get away with using soap on your legs, but lathering up on your underarms just won’t cut it. You’ll be better off swapping out your soap bar for a body wash or shaving cream packed with vitamin E or shea butter. This will help your razor to glide gently along your skin.

Know the right directions
It’s not always clear which direction the hair under your arms grows from. That’s because it grows in all different directions. So to get a close shave, avoid going over the same area in the same direction more than once. Instead, shave in every direction (up, down, right, and left). Work against the grain for a great shave.

Shaving your underarms becoming too much trouble? Laser hair removal is a simpler solution for hair removal and is well worth it if you find yourself struggling to achieve a close shave.

With beach season slowly approaching, shaving will become more of a daily routine. And although there aren’t exactly any set rules to shaving, there are a few common mistakes that we often make. Before you reach for your razor, keep these tips in mind:

Ditch the soap.

Rather than hydrating, soap dries out your skin, which makes you more susceptible to cuts and burns. That’s where shaving cream can help. Although it seems like a marketing scheme, shaving creams contain many properties that can make a difference for your skin. Creams condition the skin and provide moisture, giving you a clean, close shave.

Not all shaving creams are equal.

That being said, different shaving creams are designed for different types of skin. For example, if you suffer from dry, irritable skin, shy away from creams with fragrances and opt for one with no alcohol in the ingredient label.

Your skin needs TLC after shaving.

Most people don’t realize that shaving can damage and irritate your skin (even if you don’t have a major reaction). After shaving, it’s best to shy away from rough washcloths and loofahs - anything that will irritate your skin and cause redness.

Longer strokes aren't always better.

A common misconception is that longer strokes will give you better results. Realistically, smaller, lighter strokes are more effective. And if you find you need to go over an area more than once or twice, your razor likely isn't sharp enough.

Shaving should come last.

You’ll get a much better shave if you wait until washing your hair and exfoliating. Why? Because the hot water and steam helps to soften skin and open your pores, making it easier for your razor to do its job without harm.

Tired of the daily shave? Toss your razor aside and turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment!

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but do you know why?

Studies have found a link between staying thin and eating breakfast daily. So don’t let yourself go hungry - here are four foods to blast belly fat and maintain and healthy diet:

Spa Water - Always start off your mornings with H20. And better yet, add a fresh slice of lemon or cucumber, which has detoxifying properties that can benefit your body from the inside, out.

Vegan Protein Shake - Any breakfast that supplies your body with high protein content can help you maintain your weight and boost calorie burning. They’re quick and easy to make, and are simply to sip on the go whether you’re running late to work or class.

Eggs - Not only are eggs an excellent source of protein, but they also help to attack the gene mechanism that triggers your body to store fat around your liver.

Greek Yogurt - Rushing to get out in the morning? Grab a pack of greek yogurt and toss in some berries, chia seeds, and canned pumpkin. You can even add a bit to your smoothie, as the added protein can keep blood sugar levels stable and curb your appetite.

Shower, shave, rinse, repeat. Can you remember the last time you went a summer without shaving? Neither can we! Shaving has become the norm for most women, but have you ever stopped to think why and how it all started? We’ve got your answer!

Underarms
We can understand shaving before heading off the the beach, but what about the other 300 some-odd days of the year? Shaving underarms has become a social norm for American women, but before 1915, there was no need. No one ever saw them, and if someone did, it was considered “scandalous”. But when sleevless dresses came into the picture, women found the need to remove “objectionable hair”.

Legs
You can blame the Roaring 20s for this one! The 20s fashion became risque as women began wearing shorter hemlines dresses. And the 40s brought even shorter skirts as well as stockings. This time period also began the rise of pin-up models, such as Betty Grable. It was then that women started seeing leg hair removal as a desire and necessity.

Bikini
Believe it or not, bikini waxing has been common for hundreds of years and was modestly practiced by muslim women. And as tradition, women in the Middle East and North Africa would remove all their body hair before their wedding night. It was only after this that health concerns and the porn industry made it more mainstream.

Regardless of its history, hair removal is one of the most tedious morning rituals we find hard to avoid. But to make matters easier, there’s always laser hair removal!

Turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the warmer months arrive!

As the temperatures rise, working out becomes a bit more fun. In fact, researchers link outdoor activity to lower stress levels and higher self-esteem.  There are endless types of outdoor workouts you can throw into the mix of your exercise routine this summer, such as these:

Running
By now, you’ve probably seen more and more people running around the neighborhood. Running is one of the most beneficial ways to burn calories (and stress). But if you easily suffer from shin splints or want to switch things up, grab a pair of rollerskates before heading out!

Biking
Bored of running? Grab your bike and go! Biking is a fantastic cardio workout that works your entire body, but targets your glutes, hamstrings, quads, shins, and calves - even more so than your soul cycle class will do!

Swimming
If you’re lucky enough to own an outdoor pool or you have a membership to one, take advantage of it. Swimming is not only a great butt, thigh, hips, and ab workout, but it also cools you down when the mercury rises. If you’re planning a vacation to paradise, try snorkeling, which can burn up to 170 calories for every 30 minutes!

Hula Hooping
Remember hula hooping as a kid? Well, it’s back! Hula hooping with a weighted hoop (go for HDPE tubing) is a fantastic core workout and can work up a sweat the more you practice. They even come wrapped in shiny tape for cool effects.

Yoga
Yoga has many elements: meditation, flexibility, and athleticism. Vinyasa Flow exemplifies how yoga can help you slim down while staying in tune to your mind and body. Once you’re midway through your 90 minute vinyasa session, you’ll realize just how hard your muscles are working.

Outdoor activity is half the battle of slimming down! The other half requires something a little extra - cavi lipo - a non-surgical procedure. By maintaining a healthy diet and fitness routine you can expect long-term results. Interested in what cavi-lipo can do for you? Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Friday is Earth Day! Let’s take this time to become aware of how we can give back to our beautiful and generous environment. For starters, think about how many times you toss away your hairspray and shaving cream cans without a second thought as to how harmful it can be. Now imagine what we can do for our planet if do something as simple as recycle our empty aerosol cans…

How bad are aerosol cans for the environment?
It is often said that the compounds found in aerosol cans can damage the ozone layer. For this reason, the U.S. banned the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in 1978. These damaging effects are linked to climate change and of VOC’s contribution to smog.

What can I recycle and what can I not?
If empty, aerosol cans can be recycled with steel cans, and if partially full they are treated like household hazardous waste. However, hairspray does not yet have a recycling market. Instead, they should be disposed of as a hazardous waste. The goods is, if empty, you may recycle.

What else should I be aware of?
A commonly asked question is, “Do the lid and spray nozzle need to be removed from aerosol cans before recycling?” Since lids are made of plastic (and are therefore not steel or aluminum), they should be removed before recycling. However, avoid removing the spray nozzle, as cans are pressurized and can become a hazard if punctured. Be sure to read the warning labels on each can before recycling.

Will you think twice before tossing your hairspray and shaving cream cans? We know we will!

At Tropicalaser, we believe that being friendly to the environment and to your body is the key to living a healthy lifestyle! From organic facials to laser hair removal and cavi lipo, we are all about helping you take care of your body!

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Spring is in full bloom, which means that beach season is approaching! Imagine how happy you’ll feel walking along the sand. Now picture how much better you would feel if you knew your legs looked their best yet! Get ready to show off your skin this summer by prepping your legs in these three essential ways:

Tone
Having a slight tan makes your legs look a little more fit. And since tanning beds and long exposure to the sun is a big no-no, go for a self-tanner. Weeks before you hit the beach, start moisturizing your legs with an airbrush leg lotion. For the best results, shower and exfoliate first (to avoid awkward streaks).

Exercise
Working out makes you feel good for many reasons, and one of those is that you feel stronger and healthier. And you know what they say - beauty on the inside shines outward! So check out these excellent leg workouts or hop on YouTube and find the best routine to fit into your daily schedule.

Hair Removal
The final step to getting your legs ready for summer is to remove hair and stubble. If you’re tired of the upkeep of shaving and waxing, you might want to try laser hair removal as an alternative. Laser Hair Removal works by emitting gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle. This energy is then absorbed into the hair follicle to destroy it so that the hair is gone forever. The best part? This type of treatment can be used on all areas of the skin, including your bikini line!

Are you ready to perfect your legs for summer? Turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the summer arrives!

Getting your beauty sleep is not just a myth! Getting adequate sleep is key to a healthy mind, body, and heart. There are many reasons people say you need to adapt good sleeping habits. Here are three major benefits:

Better memory

Remember when you were in grade school and your parents made sure you got a good night’s rest before a huge exam? Well, it wasn’t all for nothing! Turns out that sleep can strengthen memories and learned practices (aka consolidation). So, whether you’re preparing for a big meeting or sports tournament, make sure you get a good night’s rest.

Live longer

Studies show that too much or too little sleep is linked to a shorter lifespan. So cherish every moment and every night of sleep you can get, as it will enhance your quality of life. In 2010, a study was conducted and showed that women of ages 50 to 79 who got more than five hours of sleep or less than six and a half hours of sleep were guaranteed a longer lifespan.

Maintain your weight

If slimming down is your goal, then you’ll certainly benefit from resting up! Researchers found that dieters who received more beauty sleep shedded more pounds (about 56 percent weight loss). The way it works is that sleep and metabolism are connected to the same sectors of the brain, and when you’re tired, certain hormones go up in your blood while your appetite goes down.

Catching up on beauty sleep is just part of maintaining a healthy weight. Sleeping well combined with a non surgical treatment option like cavi-lipo can help to you to achieve your weight loss goals! Don’t let insecurities hold you back from enjoying the sun this summer, schedule a cavi-lipo consultation today.

There’s a lot of talk about cellulite - what causes it and how you can make it vanish. Those pesky little arm and thigh dimples just love all the attention, but we’re here to set the record straight about what’s true and what’s not:

Myth: Cellulite is fat
Fact: It’s actually more in regards to the structure of your skin. No matter how thin or curvy you might be, there is a protective layer of fat between the outer layer of your skin and your muscle. Typically, “tissues connect the muscle and skin to keep the fat under wraps for smooth look on the outside.” But when age, weight change, or stress weaken those connective tissues, irregular fat cells can show through the skin, giving it that “dimply” effect.

Myth: It runs in the family
Fact: Although genetics do play a slight role in cellulite, other factors, like stress and hormones can affect its appearance as well.

Myth: Guys don’t get it
Fact: False! Men can get cellulite too; however, it isn’t common. The reason? A woman’s connective tissue is flimsier than a man’s, making it more difficult for her skin to hold in the fat. Not to mention, estrogen doesn’t help either. Testosterone, on the other hand, burns it.

Feeling cursed with cellulite? You’re not alone! That is why Tropicalaser offers cali-lipo treatments to help you break down those fat cells and restore smooth-looking skin! Don’t let insecurities hold you back from showing off your legs this summer, schedule a cavi-lipo consultation today.

Ever have those mornings where you wake up and just don’t feel beautiful? It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a new outfit or hair style, or if someone pays you a compliment - some days don't feel on your side regardless. Perhaps this occurs more often than you’d like to admit. Don’t worry, it’s completely normal.

You’re not born with confidence - no one is. Feeling good in your skin takes practice and patience. It takes a yearning desire to grow. If we take everyone else out of the equation, we realize one thing: that happiness stems from the deepest part of ourselves, and nobody else. Here are some ways you can practice and become more comfortable with yourself:

Don’t take it personally
Don’t let your ego get the best of you. The truth is, you care way more than anybody else does. You’ve heard the saying, “You are your biggest critic". So remember that - you trip and fall, people forget; you get called an ugly name, that’s someone else's insecurity. Don’t let it defeat your confidence; don’t let it get you down. If it’s not you someone is judging, it’ll be someone else.

Repeat Positive Affirmations
Affirmations are what take us from self-conscious to confident, but it doesn’t happen overnight. Remind yourself day in and day out what you hope to accomplish. Do you want to feel more beautiful? Do you want that job promotion? Do you want to find divine love? Whatever thoughts you set in motion ultimately become reality when you repeat it to yourself often enough. This is karma: putting positive thoughts out in the universe and letting them return when the time is right.

Take care of your body
Whether that means staying active, maintaining a healthy diet, or both, taking good care of your body inside and out can make you feel incredibly more confident. Take small steps before you learn to take bigger ones. When you start to nourish your body, you begin to grow a healthier relationship with yourself. So pamper yourself - take a warm bath, schedule a facial, fill your pantry with healthy snacks.

At Tropicalaser, we believe that pampering yourself and taking good care of your body is all part of the process! That is why we offer several treatments including laser hair removal, cavi lipo, and organic facials.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Winter is for gym and at-home workouts, but spring is a little different. With the weather warming up, step outside for some fresh air and leap into shape with these simple workouts (no equipment required):

Walking Lunges - Great for your quads, glutes, and hamstrings.
Stand straight upward with your feet together. Step forward with your left leg and lower hips toward the floor. Bend both knees at a 90 degree angle. Make sure your back leg never touches the ground! Push off with your right food and reset at starting position. Repeat on opposite leg.

Bench Jump - Targeting the same muscles, this one uses a bit more energy.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and position yourself into a regular squat. Use your core to jump up onto the bench in front of you. When you land on the bench, bend your knees into squatting position and lower your back. That’s one rep. Try to be as gentle as possible and wear comfortable sneakers.

Wall Sits - Engages all of your leg muscles and is quite challenging.
Find a wall and “sit” for 30 seconds, making a 90 degree angle with your legs. Push yourself each week by adding on seconds and you will strengthen those muscles faster!

Donkey Kicks - Work your glutes off with this one!
Come onto all fours with your knees just below your hips and wrists directly below your shoulders. Keeping your core engaged, lift your leg until your thigh is parallel to the ground (your leg would make a slight 90 degree angle). Lower to starting position and switch legs. Repeat.

Working out will take you one step closer to achieving the body you desire! But sometimes you need a little extra something. And that’s when cavi-lipo can help! Remember, this non-surgical procedure shouldn’t substitute your healthy lifestyle. By maintaining a healthy diet and fitness routine you can expect long-term results. Interested in what cavi-lipo can do for you? Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Banishing back hair isn’t only for the ladies - many men prefer smooth skin just as much. In fact, over the years more men have been on a quest to find the best method of manscaping. With several hair removal methods, including shaving and waxing, we thought we’d give you the lowdown on which is best and which might be the biggest waste of your money:

Shaving

There’s no doubt that shaving is the quickest method to removing back hair, but it isn’t the most effective. Not only is shaving your back hard to reach, but it also causes stumble, which we can assume isn’t your goal. If your intention is to achieve smooth skin for good, you probably want to try another method.

Waxing

Waxing can certainly help you get rid of back hair, but it’s costly, painful, and damaging to those with sensitive skin. Plus, if you go to the wrong salon, it can be quite unsanitary as well. When hair removal is unsanitary and painful, it can cause harsh skin irritations that you will have to endure if you want to keep up with the appearance of smooth and hairless back.

Laser Hair Removal

For a long lasting solution, we recommend laser hair removal. Unlike shaving and waxing, laser hair removal emits pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle. This energy is then absorbed into the hair follicle and destroys is so that no hair can ever grow there again. Although it does take about 4 to 6 weeks to see great results, imagine never having to shave or visit the salon again!

Men, if you’re tired of purchasing new razors and spending a fortune for painful back hair removal, then toss your razor aside and turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the warmer months arrive!

Just because you’re on a diet, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all the foods you love! By making a few smart substitutions, you can completely transform your eating habits for healthy weight loss:

Pretzels for chips

Enjoy a bowl of pretzels instead of high-fat potato chips or corn chips. They contain far less sodium and grease.

Angel food cake for devil’s food cake

Did you know that one slice of food cake has over 200 calories? Try angel food cake as a low-carb, and often gluten-free substitute, which contains under 100 calories.

Sweet potato for french fries

French fries are typically coated in grease and tons of salt. In fact, a serving since of about 84g (11 french fries) contains 130 calories. Sweet potatoes are far more sweeter (naturally), are a better source of fiber, and contain less calories.

Margarine for cream cheese

When baking, swap out cream cheese or soft margarine, which is low in saturated fat and contains 0 grams of trans fat - your cake will be just as mouthwatering!

Sherbet for ice cream

Now that we’re leaping into Spring, why not switch up that ice cream cone for a refreshing bowl of sherbet? Sherbert or any other low-fat yogurt has less fat and has less milk fat as well as sugar.

Leaving for Spring Break soon? The warm sun on your skin can feel therapeutic but can more so be extremely damaging to your skin. In fact, the more sun you’re exposed to, the faster your skin is likely to age. Here’s how:

Sun and elastin
Overtime, the sun’s UV light damages the elastin in your skin. The breakdown of these fibers essentially causes the skin to stretch, sag, and lose the ability to snap back, leading to what we know to be wrinkles.

Protecting your skin
Although it’s best to start protecting your skin when you’re young, it’s never too late to take precautions. Below are a few actions to take before basking in the sun:
Wear SPF and reapply - An obvious solution is to apply SPF 30 or more every hour, especially between 10am and 2pm when the sun is at its strongest.
Hydrate - Drink less alcohol and more water - it hydrates the skin. Once the skin is damaged by the sun, one thing that can help is to feed your body with the proper amount of H2O.
Moisturize daily - Apply a moisturizer every day to give your skin a more youthful appearance (and hydrate).
Eat a balanced diet - One of the smartest things you can do to counteract sun damage is to incorporate healthy foods into your diet. Vegetables and fresh fruits can help prevent premature skin aging, even if you’ve been exposed to more sun than you intended to.

Make a pact this year to protect your skin in these little ways. And don’t forget to pamper yourself with facial treatments from Tropicalaser of Long Island!

Ingrown hairs - an all too common occurrence when it comes to hair removal. Why? When tweezed, waxed, or shaved hair grows back, it sometimes curls back into the skin and not through to the surface. The result? An unsightly raised, pink or tan bump that can become infected and is often times painful.

While ingrowns typically aren’t cause for alarm, they certainly aren’t pleasant.  To help prevent them, keep the following tips in mind:

Shave after cleansing -  Your hair will be softer and more pliable. Always use shaving gel or cream.
Don’t pull skin taught while shaving - This allows the cut hair to draw back into the skin and re-enter the skin without first growing out.
Use a sharp razor - Determine if a single or multiple blade razor is best for you and change your blade frequently.
Experiment in shaving directions - Some find shaving in the direction of hair growth prevents ingrowns while others claim shaving against the grain showed most improvement. See what’s best for you!
Exfoliate - Ingrowns can also be caused by the existence of a thick layer of dead skin. Use an exfoliating glove, brush, or body scrub once or twice a week.

The best method for ingrown hair prevention? Avoiding waxing, shaving, and tweezing all together! Laser hair removal is a more permanent solution for hair removal and is well worth it if you find yourself struggling with ingrown hairs.

While the spring season is on the horizon, we’re not out of the woods just yet. This winter’s weather continues to wreak havoc on our skin - leaving us rough, scaly, and itchy.

Whether you are suffering from red, raw skin right now or are finding your legs more flaky than usual - there are things you can do to make a difference:

  • Keep cool. While cold temps may still be upon us, refrain from cranking the thermostat! Dry, indoor heat will rid your home - and skin - of its natural moisture. Instead, layer up while indoors and consider investing in a humidifier at the very least for your bedroom. Your skin will thank you!
  • Bathe in WARM water. A nice, hot, steamy shower may be just what you need to unwind after a long day - but it doesn’t help your dry skin. Hot water strips your body of its natural protective oils which work to keep your skin smooth and moist. Dial down the temperature to just above lukewarm.
  • Shave wisely. Not only can shaving irritate dry skin, but the act of shaving scrapes off your skin’s natural oils. Wait until you’re near done with your shower to shave - hairs will be softer and more pliable post bathing. Always be sure to use shaving cream or gel and a sharp blade.
  • Pat yourself dry. After a shower, start patting (not rubbing) yourself dry. Rubbing can irritate your skin and also whisks away a lot of beneficial moisture. Patting on the other hand leaves your skin damp - key for soaking up any moisturizer you apply after showering!

Craving your favorite winter carbs? You’re not alone! Studies show that we tend to eat more during those cooler months of the year (and sometimes gain an extra pound or two in the process). But when you just feel like curling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate or digging into a pint of ice cream, how to you resist the temptation? Below are four tips to beat those cravings and keep that healthy figure of yours:

Exercise. This may sound like a cliche, but did you know that working out can help control the amount you eat? So when you’re feeling the urge to dig through your pantry, pull out the yoga mat and dumbbells instead.

Snack. Eating high protein, high fiber snacks in between meals can keep your body warmer, which means you will be less likely to crave your favorite winter carbs. For example, try some peanut butter on whole wheat crackers or some low-fat cheese on a slice of wheat bread. Remember, eat everything in moderation.

Log. Write a food log to keep track of the foods you eat. That way, if you’re packing on too many carbs, you’ll know what times of day you crave them most and what you need to cut back on.

Go out. Getting outside on sunny winter days (or opening up the windows) is a form of therapy that can curb your appetite. Why? Because the more sunlight you receive, the more your serotonin levels will increase, which links to curbed cravings.

While curbing your winter cravings and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle is always the number one solution to staying slim all year round, pairing it with a non surgical treatment option like cavi-lipo can help to maximize results! Don’t let insecurities hold you back from enjoying the sun this summer, schedule a cavi-lipo consultation today.

We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Wish the region down there could be just as smooth as your legs? Shaving and waxing down there can act as a quick fix, but it’s certainly no walk in the park. Although there aren’t any rules about bikini line hair removal, you can bet that it’s mighty uncomfortable.

Shaving
Shaving is the fastest solution to bikini line hair removal. Nevertheless, it’s also the most high-maintenance. Not only can you expect to shave every few days, but you can also guarantee that razor burn and stubble is unavoidable. This is likely a result if shaving against the grain, but it’s also because the skin down there is super sensitive.

Waxing
Waxing before Spring Break vacation or a special event might sound like the best plan of action, but did you know that many salons are incredible unsanitary? Let’s say a woman books a bikini wax an hour before your scheduled session. If one stick is double dipped into the wax, you can rest assured that unless the wax is replaced after every appointment, your stick will be dipped into the same pot of wax. Did we also mention how painful and expensive it is?

That being said, there is one other solution that can save you constant pain and money: laser hair removal. Laser Hair Removal works by emitting gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle. This energy is then absorbed into the hair follicle to destroy it so that the hair is gone forever. The best part? This type of treatment can be used on all areas of the skin, including your bikini line!

Are you ready to toss your razor aside? Turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the warmer months arrive!

You were given a razor as a teen that likely came with no instructions at all. And as a result, you’ve probably experienced just as many bumps, razor burns, and cuts as the rest of us. Although these “uh oh” moments seem completely normal, the truth is they are likely a cause of shaving improperly. Below are a few of the most common shaving mistakes women make. Do any sound familiar?

Mistake #1. One of the most common mistakes women make is being too heavy-handed with the razor. Instead of getting a closer shave, you’re actually just causing burns. Go extra slow when using a new razor, especially around the less “fleshy” areas, such as your knees.

Mistake #2. Are you anxious to hit the shower and shave? Sit tight! Shaving right away without allowing your skin to hit the warm water for about 2 to 3 minutes can prevent your hair follicles from opening up. And as a result, you won’t be able to achieve that close shave you desire.

Mistake #3. Lathering up is key - we can’t stress it enough. Sure, it might seem easier (and quicker) to shave against dry skin, but in doing so you won’t provide the “slip” your skin needs to get the job done right.

Mistake #4. Exfoliating might sound like a luxury, but it truly is a necessity. Regular exfoliation not only encourages your hair to grow back properly, but it also reduces the odds of ingrown hairs.

Learn more about common shaving mistakes by clicking here.

Although the pains of shaving can be easily avoided, how do you like the sound of never having to pick up a razor again? Turn to Tropicalaser to start your personalized laser hair removal treatment before the warmer months arrive!

Craving your favorite comfort foods this winter? Aside from creamy soups and pasta dishes, there are many other alternatives that will not only comfort you but will also rejuvenate your skin and slow the aging process:

Nuts
Rich with unsaturated fats, there are a variety of nuts that can reduce the appearance of aging skin. This is due to the amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that it offers. So grab a handful of almonds and cashews on-the-go or add some to your favorite salad.

Sweet Potatoes
Swap out that baked potato for an even sweeter alternative. Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene, which not only gives them their orange color but also offers aging benefits. For example, it prevents the breakdown of collagen in your skin and also protects you from sun damage (note: this is not an alternative for sunscreen).

Chocolate
No more excuses needed! Contrary to popular belief, indulging in a bar of chocolate every now and again will not cause breakouts. In fact, the flavonoids found in dark chocolate can help protect your skin from sun damage.

Blueberries
One of the healthiest fruits that fights signs of aging. Packed with antioxidants, blueberries can fight inflammation that leads to unhealthy skin. Throw a handful into your morning bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothie for the most delicious and beneficial results!

Is a healthy diet not giving you the results you desire? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Want to rid your body of unwanted hair? There are many types of hair removal options out there, such as waxing, shaving - the list goes on! But all of these methods are incredibly different, so how do you choose the best approach for your skin? These clues might help you decide:

Tweezing
Ouch! Tweezing is probably one of the most painful hair removal methods. The reason? Tweezing involves ripping the root of the hair out of their follicles, and if your skin isn’t hydrated enough, it can be ten times more intolerable! It can also cause ingrown hairs like no other hair removal method. We recommend tweezing the smallest areas of your skin and avoiding the larger surfaces.

Shaving
While shaving can help you cut hairs close to the skin’s surface, it can leave you with ingrown hairs, which is especially a nuisance during swimsuit season. Although your legs can become instantly smooth after shaving, expect to repeat every 1 to 3 days if you plan to continue looking and feeling smooth.

Waxing
Waxing is considered to be another method of pulling hair out of the root. Although it is ideal for large body regions, such as legs, bikini area, and, underarms, be careful of bumps and infections. Also, ask your salon to cool off the wax enough before applying to your skin, as this will decrease the risk of scalding.

Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal typically requires a few sessions for complete removal but is known to be the most efficient method. Laser hair removal is the ideal way to remove unwanted hair because the use of a laser will remove hair from the follicle completely and destroy it so that it can never grow in the same area.

If laser hair removal sounds like the perfect solution to banish unwanted hair for good, turn to Tropicalaser!

For many of us, slimming down can have a yo-yo effect - one moment you’re content with your weight and the next you’re slowing gaining what you lost. If this phenomenon sounds familiar, don’t let it discourage you! By following a few simple tips, weight loss can be easily maintained. Here’s the secret:

Keep an eye on numbers. Once you start losing weight, be sure to weigh yourself every week or two. That way, you know the pounds won’t be creeping up on you.

Set goals. Write a list of goals you want to accomplish as you slim down and kickstart your fitness plan - both small and big ones. For example, make a promise to yourself that you won’t indulge in your favorite bowl of ice cream until you reach X number of pounds or sign up for a marathon - anything to motivate you throughout your journey.

Track your diet. Whether it be in your notebook or on your mobile app, keep a record of your daily eating habits and the amount of calories you consume. You’ll be able to see if you’re eating the right food proportions and what you might need to change.

Find support. You don’t have to take the journey alone! Shedding pounds can be a challenge for anyone, so find a social support group, whether it be friends, family, or online clicks. The stronger your support team, the more you can motivate each other to stay focused on your goals.

While we hope these weight loss secrets work for you, we know that sometimes slimming down can be a challenge even if you’re doing all the right things.

Find it challenging to stick to that New Year’s diet you promised yourself? Don’t let it defeat you! With a few tips, you can learn how easy it is to fall into a healthy eating plan:

Cook often. The first step to sticking to your New Year’s diet is to prepare home cooked meals. When it comes down to feeding your body with the nutrients it needs, nothing is of higher quality than ingredients from your very own kitchen. Not only does it provide you will a balanced meal, but it also means you’ll decrease your intake of salt and trans fats, which is key to slimming down and staying healthy.

Eat breakfast. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” It’s not just a myth! When you eat a hearty breakfast, packed with healthy carbs and proteins, you’ll experience less cravings and receive the nutrition you need to jump start your day.

Indulge seldomly. A little dark chocolate or a bite of ice cream once in awhile won’t ruin your diet. In fact, it can help you stay on track. This is because when you deprive yourself of the sweet snacks you’re craving, you can end up falling back into bad habits. So don’t be afraid of a little indulgence.

Learn portion control. The trick to sticking to your diet is to learn portion control. This means resisting temptations to binge and knowing when your body says it’s full. And when it comes to snacking, choose 100-calorie packs instead of large bags.

Sometimes following a healthy diet doesn’t get us the results we want as quickly as we may hope. That’s where Cavi-Lipo comes in. This nonsurgical procedure is ideal for those looking to jump start their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier lifestyle for 2016.

If this sounds like you, give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Can’t stand the daily shave? We know the pain! From stubborn patches that grow back fast to the expense of constantly replacing your dull razor blade, there are many reasons to look for a better solution. The most popular choice? Laser hair removal!

Whether you have an appointment lined up or you’re thinking about scheduling one, you probably have a number of questions on your mind, such as how to prep for treatment. Well look no further - we’ve got your crucial information here:

Avoid tanning.
This is one of the main reasons many people schedule laser hair removal appointments during the winter months. Some doctors recommend staying out of the sun for up to six weeks before your appointment. This is due to the risk of side effects, such as skin lightening. Laser hair removal best works when your skin’s pigmentation is lighter, so be smart when it comes to sun exposure and protecting your skin.

Don’t pluck or wax.
While it’s perfectly fine to shave before your laser hair removal treatment, be sure you avoid plucking and waxing, as this can change the hair follicles and interfere with the treatment. Shaving on the other hand preserves the hair shaft and follicle so that you can have a better laser hair removal experience. In fact, shaving is highly recommended before treatment for this reason.

Ask questions.
Be sure to schedule a consultation session and ask your specialist questions, like what type of laser is used during treatment, how many sessions you will need, what steps you should take after treatment (if any), and how else you can prep for a better experience. This will not only provide you with the necessary information needed for your session but will also help to ease your mind about the process.

Liking the sound of never having to worry about shaving, bleaching or waxing again? Give us a call at 1 (516) 307-1543 to schedule your free consultation. During your consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you. Plus, at Tropicalaser - we frequently offer discounts and specials, interest free financing and offer the best prices. If you find it cheaper - we’ll match it or beat it.

Feeling cursed with facial redness this winter? When the weather becomes dry as it is, it’s only natural that your skin will turn dry and flushed. In fact, many of us suffer from dry skin and redness during the cooler months. But luckily, there are a few simple remedies that can neutralize the skin’s pigmentation:

Masks - Although there’s no scientific evidence to prove facial masks are beneficial for the skin, it’s been a well-known remedy for hundreds of years. Those containing ingredients, such as cucumber and oatmeal have been a popular cure for redness. For cucumber, be sure to use it straight from the fridge, and for oatmeal, try pulverized oats.

Diet - Tea such as chamomile and green tea contain skin cell rejuvenating properties, so be sure to add a few cups into your diet. It also helps to shy away from spicy foods and drinks that are especially hot. Substitute these with fish oil supplements and probiotics. And don’t forget to eat plenty of natural foods, like fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin E.

Facials - Facials have been proven to improve skin tone and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Whether it be cranberry pomegranate or chocolate mousse, there are plenty of facial treatments that can hydrate your skin and return your pigmentation to normalcy.

If you find that home remedies aren’t curing your facial redness, turn to Tropicalaser of Long Island to give your skin a nourishing and cleansing boost.

New year, new body? If slimming down and getting a six pack is your 2016 resolution, you probably have a few questions about getting started.

Developing a six pack can seem like a long shot. The trick is to create a fresh diet and workout plan. While you know eating clean and hydrating often is essential to getting fit, you might find it difficult to know which exercises will target those core muscles. To help you get started, we’ve compiled six effective ab workouts to incorporate into your new fitness plan:

Torso Twist - Engage your obliques by standing in an upright position with a small weight in hands. Slowly twist your torso to the right, rotate back to center, and then to the left. Repeat. Remember, proper breathing is key. Exhale as you complete the twist and inhale back to center.

Fitness Ball Workout - Use your fitness ball as a seat. Place your feet hip-width apart, flat on the floor. Straighten your back and rest your hands across your chest (in sit-up position). Squeeze abs, lean back slowly, and return. Don’t forget to breathe.

Pelvic Lifts - Lie on your back with your knees bent approximately 45 degrees with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arms at your sides, palms facing down. Squeeze your abdomen, then lift your hips and glutes away from the floor. Hold for one to two breaths and return to starting position. Repeat.

Kneeling Crunch - Isolate your abs by kneeling with one arm locked straight under your shoulder. Reach the other arm forward and keep at shoulder level while the opposite leg swings back at hip height. Remember: exhale, contract the abdominal muscles, and round your body up to the ceiling. Repeat on other side.

Leg Lifts - Lie with your back on the ground. Place your hands directly under your sacrum, palms down. Keeping your legs together, lift both at once to a 90 degree angle. Lower back down and repeat.

Toe Dip - Sit straight with both knees bent, and feet flat on the floor. Lean back onto your elbows, with shoulder blades down and palms flat. Clench abs as you slide your hands under your lower back for support. Lift legs up until knees are approximately 90 degrees over your hips. As you inhale, dip your toe to the floor and back to starting position. Exhale and alternate legs.

Sometimes slimming down and building a six pack is tougher than it might appear. If these six exercises aren’t cutting it for you, Cavi-Lipo might be your solution. Cavi-Lipo is ideal for those in a solid health and wellness routine looking to remove localized pockets of fat or drop body fat percentage. Additionally, this nonsurgical procedure is equally ideal for those looking to “jump start” their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

Here at Tropicalaser Long Island, you can get into the best shape of your life with the help of advanced technology with no downtime required.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Oily skin not only makes your face shiny and greasy looking, it can also increase your risk of acne and clogged pores. But just like with any other skin types, there are some things you can do to reduce skin problems.

Stylecraze has helped us round up some ways to keep your skin's oil production in control:

  • Say YES to cleansing. By keeping your skin clean helps prevent dirt buildup. Opt for gel-based or foaming cleansers if you have oily skin as well as those that are oil free.
  • Scrubbing is GOOD! By exfoliating once or twice a week, you can reduce the amount of dead skin cells and renew your skin’s surface.
  • WEEKLY face masks are effective. Adding a weekly face mask to your skin routine can help absorb all the excess oils.
  • Use ALCOHOL-FREE toner. Toning daily will help both eliminate excess oil and get rid of dirt on your skin.
  • DO NOT skip moisturizer. Oily skin needs hydration and moisturizing, and by stripping that will only encourage the production of oil. Look for water-based/oil-free moisturizers.
  • ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Gel-based sunscreen will leave your face matte and help fight the good fight against brown spots, pigmentation, and freckles.

Throughout the day, you may always want to keep some translucent powder handy to control oil. Oil blotting sheets are also a good backup!

Feel like the above tips aren’t helping? Ask us about our skin care services to see which is best for you. Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Feeling a bit less than luminous lately? Truth be told, of the multitude of ways to make your skin look younger and fresher - many don’t take much more effort in your already daily routine.

Check out some of these simple skin tips you may not have heard:

Cheap-o lotions work: If you’re in a pinch, any moisturizer with glycerin, shea butter, or another basic hydrator will help your skin. For more frequent use, you’ll still want to go with dermatologist recommended creams that have ingredients designed to boost cell turnover, stimulate collagen grown, and banish DNA-damaging free radicals.

Remember, the sun is everywhere: Just because you are barely exposed to direct sunlight on your daily commutes doesn’t mean you are protected against photodamage. UVA rays can go through the windows of your office, home, and car! Recent studies have shown the damage that UVA can do to the skin on a daily basis. So don’t risk it, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen each and every day.

Keep your distance: The sun isn’t the only source of heat damaging to skin. Direct exposure to space heaters and fireplaces (two - three feet) can cause redness and breakdown of collagen. Bundle up and sit at least ten feet away from heat sources!

Drink water, wisely: Water of course is important for your health, and skin. But constantly pursing creates lines and agitates any existing ones around the mouth. Choose to sip water from a glass when you can or opt for a reusable bottle with a spout that you can easily squirt into your mouth.

It’s not too late to take care of your skin. Plus, with facials and microdermabrasion treatments offered here at Tropicalaser Long Island, you can help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin, contact us to learn about such services.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Bikini line, under arms, upper lip - for hair removal, these spots are nothing new. But if you’ve begun spotting some strays in less discussed areas, you’re not alone. As we age, hormone levels change and as a result: hair growth in weird places.

See below for what we’re talking about and how you can combat it:

  1. Chin: Thanks to age-related shifting hormone levels, it’s not unusual to discover a few darker-than-normal hairs. Grab a pair of tweezers and gently remove any that you may find. You’ll want to avoid waxing this sensitive area - for just a a few strays, you don’t want to trigger irritation.
  2. Back or décolleté: Going through menopause? Hair growth may follow a male pattern - sprouting strays on your back and chest. This can be remedied with a depilatory cream or wax for any hard to reach areas. Laser hair removal is also an option if you seek a more permanent solution.
  3. Face: While peach fuzz is genetic, it can become more noticeable with age-related estrogen dips. Shaving causes stubble, instead a more permanent solution like laser hair removal is in your best interest.
  4. Nipples: Yup, expect some rogue hairs here as your hormones shift. If you spot an occasional hair, tweeze it. For anything more, laser hair removal is safe and effective for the areola.
  5. Abdomen: No matter the age, this area is a common spot for excess hair in women. For a quick removal method, try waxing. For a more permanent alternative, that’s where laser hair removal comes in.

Should you experience a rapid growth of hair in the above areas, you may want to consult your physician to see if there is an underlying medical issue (such as a thyroid condition).

If you’d prefer never having to wax or shave again - we offer a more permanent solution.

3. You’ll reduce anxiety - While not a total cure, exercise can ease anxiety and depression. Fitness works as a mood elevator since your body releases feel good chemicals when active. You may find it easier to manage stress - which can be especially beneficial with the upcoming holidays!

4. You’ll strengthen your immune system - Regular exercise can give your immune system a boost - just be careful not to overdo it. Too much exercise can wear your body down!

5. You’ll improve your confidence - Appearance isn’t everything, but who doesn’t want to look or feel their best? Create an exercise plan now to follow and enter the new year with an improved attitude!

Sometimes following a healthy diet and fitness schedule doesn’t get us the results we want as quickly as we may hope. That’s where Cavi-Lipo comes in.

If either of these people sound like you, give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Facials are not only for when you decide to pamper yourself. While regularly cleaning your face is important - facials help in giving you a deeper clean, which is necessary for the health and wellness of your skin!

And we’re not talking about an at-home solution. Here’s why you should be getting professional facials regularly:

  1. Expert skin analysis is key in understanding your skin’s specific needs. As everyone’s needs are different, an esthetician can help in suggesting the best products for your home care routine as well as identify what is needed to treat any problems you may have.
  2. Professional strength exfoliation is important, especially with the unavoidable toxins that can cause our skin to look congested. Having it specifically catered to your skin type (decided on after your expert skin analysis), helps to better smooth your skin, increase cellular turnover, and break up skin discoloration.
  3. Deep Cleansing removes dirt and oil build up without drying out skin. It takes a professional esthetician to properly prepare and soften the skin before manual extractions can take place in an effective way. Proper cleansing means your pores will be refined and your complexion will look and feel rejuvenated.
  4. Anti-aging is an inevitable part of life, but getting regular facials can promote cell turnover and boost collagen production. Certain facials even utilize specific antioxidants and vitamins for anti-aging benefits! Ask us about our Firm Skin Acai Facial, its potent formula will leave behind a youthful complexion while firming and plumping the skin.
  5. Alleviating stress is necessary for your overall wellbeing. As studies have shown, stress can lead to unhealthy skin - so what better way to de-stress than by receiving a facial with a face, neck, and back massage in a peaceful relaxing environment! Restore balance to your mind AND complexion.

For more information on why facials are good for you check out the full article on Refinery29

Let’s face it, you’ve tried depilatory creams (too messy), waxing (ouch), and your shaving routine has begun leaving you with enough bumps and ingrowns that you’re ready to give up. These traditional hair removing techniques are not only time consuming and annoying, they are also temporary - resulting in further costs down the line.

That’s where laser hair removal comes in.

Whether you wish to rid hair from your face, leg, arm, bikini area, or other areas - laser hair removal if your best choice for a more permanent solution. Consider the amount of money you spend monthly, or yearly, on buying razors, shaving cream, or going for a wax. Now multiply that throughout your lifetime. With laser hair removal, you pay per session (at least 6 sessions are recommended) and on average 80-95% of hair is permanently removed after the recommended course of treatments.

This fall season is the perfect time to start your hair removal treatments, not only does it give your hair the appropriate growth cycle but you also don’t need to worry about sun exposure. Plus, since the process is carried out at regular intervals of around 4-6 weeks - come spring your unsightly hair will be a thing of the past. So start the efforts of being "fuzz free" now before next year’s bikini season!

It’s time for a skin-tervention. You may not always be aware of it, but every day habits can easily have a negative impact on your skin. If you’re guilty of one of the below, time to make some adjustments - fast!

Popping pimples- It’s not uncommon to want to pop pimples but do keep in mind, squeezing them can actually make the infection go deeper! This major backfire can permanently enlarge pores. Can’t resist? Try washing your face with a washcloth - if the pimple is ready to pop, this pressure is all it needs to drain it.

Sleeping with makeup on- Not removing makeup before bed can clog pores and oil glands, resulting in acne. It can also cause premature aging as leaving your makeup on doesn’t let your skin recover from the damage it encountered during the day.

Not getting enough sleep- Sleep not only benefits our energy levels and metabolism but it also has serious effects on our skin. Sleep helps the body’s hydration rebalance. Beyond those dark, under-eye circles, lack of sleep can also cause skin dryness and visible wrinkles.

Washing your face with the wrong cleansers- Washing your face daily is important - as long as you’re using the correct soap. Those prone to pimples or that have oily skin initially may gravitate to cleansers or exfoliators that dry things out. Makes sense right? Wrong! These actually can strip the skin of all its GOOD oils and protective barrier. Instead go with a nourishing face wash.

Feel like the above daily habits have added years to your face? Treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin, contact us to learn about such services.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Did you know, experts suggest the fall season as the ultimate time for shaping up? Now is the perfect time to create good habits for the holiday season and upcoming winter months. Think of it as a jump start to your healthy New Years resolution!

To help get you started, here are some ways you can “Fall” into fitness:

  • Take advantage of the weather. Well, perhaps not this hurricane filled weekend - but in general, fall can be a nice treat for the senses. Go out for a walk or run, discover some local LI park trails and take in some new scenery. Pretty fall foliage certainly beats the gym walls any day.
  • Stay hydrated. Often times, people feel less thirsty when its not hot out. But staying hydrated in cooler temps is just as important as when the sun is blazing. Keep on top of your fluid intake to help with both exercise recovery and appetite control.
  • Think outside the box. Take chores for example. Did you know a 150 pound person can burn 135 calories simply by raking leaves for 30 minutes? Now when the leaves fall - don’t dread cleaning up your yard!
  • Prepare for darkness. As the days start getting shorter, darkness sets in quicker. This doesn't mean you can't still get out and exercise! Wear a reflective vest and carry a flashlight.
  • Wear layers. These days, there's no lack of great weather gear - so dress appropriately. Layer your clothing if exercising outside, consider DriFit fabrics for sweat wicking, and cover up ears on the especially biting days.

While working out and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle is always the number one solution to get the body you want, pairing it with a non surgical treatment option like cavi-lipo can help to maximize results! Give us a call today to see how this treatment can help you: (516) 307-1543.

Whether you know it or not, our daily lifestyle can affect our health and age us. So reverse the process! Below are some every day habits that are known to speed up the aging process (and how to prevent them):

  1. You’re overwhelmed: Have a never ending to do list? Trying to multitask can cause added stress that is truly taxing on your body. Rather than focusing on everything left to-do, concentrate on the task at hand and only move on once you’re finished.
  2. You feed your sweet tooth: Increased sugar intake results in a natural process known as “glycation,” in which sugar molecules attach themselves to proteins in your bloodstream. This can result in loss of elasticity, radiance, and increase fine lines.
  3. You don’t sleep enough: Aside from dark under eye circles, skipping out on your much needed shut eye has been linked to a shorter life span, higher blood pressure, and weight gain. Keep in mind everyone’s sleep needs vary, but in general a solid 7 to 8 hours will suffice.
  4. You don’t use eye cream: The skin around your eyes is significantly thinner and thus shows age faster than other areas of the face. While lots of variables play into why bags and wrinkles form, keeping them moisturized with eye specific cream (especially those containing Retin A) can help tighten the skin in the area while reducing fine lines.

Lunges, squats, and planks can help slim your thighs - but what about those imperfections fitness regimens can’t cure?

The unofficial end of summer is on the horizon, but that doesn’t mean the hot temps are cooling off just yet. We’ve still got some skin baring days upon us so why not take full advantage - see below for some tips and tricks to help erase all of those upper-leg concerns:

Cellulite - The older we get, the less elastic our skin, and thus the more obvious those unsightly fat stores are. For a temporary fix, create a DIY body scrub with coffee grounds before showing off your legs - the caffeine will help to tighten blood vessels and give the illusion of smoother thighs.

Dry patches - Exfoliation is key, and easily done via dry brushing. Dry brushing daily, from toes to fingertips (and always towards your heart) can help to increase circulation and flush out toxins. Notice glowing skin and fewer rough patches in just a few weeks!

Razor Bumps and Burn - Work hard at prevention - be sure to apply shaving cream or conditioner every time you use your razor and toss any dull blades. However if you’ve already got some red patches, try a calming lotion to soothe the irratiation.

Chafing - Rubbing between the thighs can cause uncomfortable irritation, to remedy this, try applying some baby powder. Bonus - this also helps to keep sweat at bay, try it on the backs of your knees!

From nonsurgical liposuction to laser hair removal, we pride ourselves in only providing treatments by experienced, licensed professionals. This ensures that you receive the best cosmetic outcome safely from your treatment and leave our center with outer radiance, confidence and feeling your best.

Contact us today to find out how we can remove localized pockets of fat with Cavi-Lipo or unsightly hair from your thighs with our Laser Hair Removal services. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Happy September! With the realization that summer is drawing to a close, you may also be thinking the best days of produce are behind you. Think again! From lettuce to apples, here are some of the best foods to purchase this upcoming season:

Apples - New York’s apple picking season begins this month! Stock up on this low-fat, high fiber fruit - full of Vitamin C. When selecting, pick an apple that is firm and avoid any that have wrinkles or bruises.

Rutabaga - A fall favorite, rutabaga best ripens in cool autumn weather. Research has shown that this root vegetable may help the risk of prostate and lung cancers. Plus, a cup of rutabaga offers about 3 grams of fiber.

Turnip Leaves - The cooler the temps get, the turnip greens get crisper and sweeter. Even more so, these greens are a great source of calcium!

Lettuce - While lettuce is known for growing fast in the sun, it’s also one of the few vegetables that does well in the shade! So have no fear, your lettuce remains in the green.

From laser hair removal to facials to non surgical liposuction -  we Pride ourselves in only providing treatments by experienced, licensed professionals. Are you falling into an end of summer workout slump? Don’t let it get the best of you! With some small steps you can get yourself back on the fitness path in no time.

  1. Avoid the negative. Instead of focusing on your troubled areas or how you can’t eat the way you used to, stay positive! You must accept the reality that in order to get back to where you want to be, you need to exercise and eat right to see results. This helps to focus you to find the time to do so.
  2. Find a workout partner. Like Laurie Cole, SoulCycle instructor in New York says, “Part of the reason you go to your favorite hairstylist is for the human connection.” Transfer that over to your gym routine! It’s easier if you have a friend to share your workout with, whether it’s in a class setting or just going around the weight room.
  3. Be the DJ. Create a new playlist each week to fuel your workouts. Many find the aid of music key for canceling out distractions during their fitness routine. Updating your playlist with new songs or remixes can keep things fresh and aid your motivation for the week to come.
  4. Count your minutes. Rather than starting your week with the goal to complete an hour long work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - aim to exercise for a cumulative 180 minutes instead. This gives you more flexibility and you can try getting in a 20 minute brisk walk on your daily lunch break. Keep track of your movements using your iPhone or a wearable activity tracker like a Fitbit.
  5. Be public with your goals. Take your goals to the blogosphere. Document your efforts online and hold yourself accountable. Plus, if your online community is tracking your efforts, you won't want to let them down!

While working out and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle is always the number one solution to get the body you want, pairing it with a non surgical treatment option like cavi-lipo can help to maximize results! Give us a call today to see how this treatment can help you: (516) 307-1543.

We all know you should exfoliate your face but what about the rest of your body? After all, dead skin can build up anywhere. See below for 5 spots you may not be exfoliating - but should:

Lips

Yes we know, your lips are on your face but still they are often forgotten about! Try using a soft toothbrush in a circular motion to get the job done. After exfoliating make sure to apply a thick lip balm to keep your lips hydrated and smooth.

Butt

Many things can lead to pesky ingrowns on your rear - including friction from sitting and working out in tight clothing. Put on some exfoliating bath gloves during your shower and use a gentle cleanser a few times each week. This will loosen up hairs and even out the texture.

Arms

Keratosis pilaris(KP) is the scientific name for the annoying bumps you may have on your upper arms and legs. Unfortunately, your parents are to blame for this one as it is genetic. If you have KP, over exfoliation can leave your arms looking even worse than when you started. Try using exfoliating lotions that contain alpha hydroxy acids. This will help smooth out your skin.

Legs

Every time you shave your legs it’s not uncommon to come across those unfortunate razor bumps. To avoid this, use an exfoliating shave gel and try going with the grain instead of against it.

Heels

Heels often take the worst beating, but routinely exfoliating your feet and heels can prevent painful cracks and skin buildups. Before going to bed, use a urea-based cream on your feet. You can even try wearing a pair of socks over it to make sure you will wake up with your feet feeling smooth.

If you’re looking to have glowing skin all year long, check out what Tropicalaser can do for you. From ridding yourself of annoying ingrowns thanks to our laser hair removal services to exfoliating your face with a professional microdermabrasion - we’ve got you covered.

Either your pants shrank or your belly grew - whichever the reason, wearing loose shirts to cover up doesn’t need to be the answer. Good news is your belly is actually one of the easiest places to lose weight - the best way to do so? Eat!

Make sure the below foods are included in your diet to help you lose the bloat, naturally.

Berries, Cherries & Grapes
All of these foods share common plant chemicals called anthocyanins which burns abdominal fat. These treats are also full of antioxidants and fiber! Try topping your nonfat Greek yogurt with some mixed berries as well as nuts, cinnamon, honey, and a bit of vanilla extract for a delicious and healthy breakfast.

Dairy
Whey is a protein that supports the formation of lean body mass and can be found in foods like milk, yogurt, and cheese. Dairy also helps fill you up which will help increase overall weight loss. Try eating some cottage cheese, string cheese, or Greek yogurt. Swap sour cream in dips with Greek Yogurt as a healthier alternative.

Potassium
Instead of eating salty foods which will make you bloated, try eating more foods that are rich in potassium! While sodium brings water out of the cells, potassium brings it into the cells where it belongs. A few foods you can try are bananas, avocados, orange juice, and baked potatoes with the skin still on them.

Lean Protein
These foods take longer to digest than carbohydrates which means you will feel full for a longer amount of time. These proteins also help build muscle. Some foods to try out are skinless chicken breasts, turkey cutlets, egg whites, fish, and pork tenderloin.

Whole Grains
Whole grains contain magnesium and chromium which are both important nutrients to fight cortisol, which is a stress hormone that directs fat to be stored around your waist. They also keep down your insulin production. Try whole grain toast with one fried egg, a slice of smoked turkey, and chopped asparagus as an awesome healthy meal.

Make the effort to add these foods to your diet as well as your post cavi-lipo treatment efforts. Remember, cavi-lipo shouldn’t be a substitute for healthy living habits. By maintaining a healthy diet and exercise you can expect long-term results. Interested in what cavi-lipo can do for you? Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Whether you’re aware or not, plenty of us are sinful where our beauty regimens are concerned. While you may have your routine down to a science, fact is some faux pas may be foiling your efforts. See below for some common bad beauty habits and how to break them:

Sleeping on the Same Side of Your Face. While this may not be entirely in your control, do your best to change up your sleeping positions. Repeatedly snoozing on the same side of your face scrunches up the skin, which can cause fine lines to become permanently etched.

Rubbing Your Eyes. The eye area is the most sensitive area of the face. The more this thin skin is rubbed or pulled, the easier for it to slacken and fine lines to form. So handle with care!

Wearing Too Much Moisturizer. Keeping skin moisturized is important, but too much of it won’t be doing you any favors. Excess cream will be unable to absorb deeply enough into cellular tissue, thus clogging pores.

Drinking Through a Straw. Repeated facial expressions over time, like pursing your lips, can cause fine lines to form around your mouth. Solution? Drink directly from the glass, bottle, or can.

Cleaning Your Face with Hot Water. Hot temps lead to broken capillaries on the face. Capillary walls are super thin and elastic and are very reactive to temperature. Keep the balance - used lukewarm water for your daily cleansing ritual.

If you find yourself committing the above beauty sins it may be time to give your face a reboot. Treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion help regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful. Take advantage of our Healthy Skin Promotion and get an organic facial and microdermabrasion treatment for just $99 ($250 value) through the end of August!

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We offer treatments to patients on Long Island at our Garden City location, 825 East Gate Blvd., Suite #104.

Comfortable in your birthday suit? Kudos! For the rest of us that are looking for a little extra oomph to get us through the last of beach season, see below for some tips to help you feel more comfortable in your own skin:

Debloat. Feeling a little puffy? Increase the fluids! Dilute concentrated cranberry in a lot of water and drink it throughout the day. This powerful diuretic will help in no time.

Outgrow ingrowns. Ingrown hairs are enough to make anyone want to cover up. Instead, work to prevent them. Wash your bikini area with a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cleanser before shaving to reduce the inflammation and bacteria that contributes to ingrowns. Is this a constant problem for you? Why not consider Laser Hair Removal to help you rid those stubborn hairs for good.

Scrub and soften. Exfoliating doesn’t just buff away dry skin - it can also help to temporarily minimize the appearance of cellulite. So buff your whole body from your feet up - omitting the neck and chest where skin is thinner. Follow with a quick, cool shower to get your blood pumping.

Stand tall. Improve your posture and engage your abdominals at all times! Slouching not only costs you inches but your belly fat proturdes more and appears bigger. When you stand straight, the belly fat stretches out making it appear smaller - stand in front of a mirror and see for yourself!

At Tropicalaser, we offer a variety of services to help give you the boost of confidence you need - from Cavi-Lipo to skin treatments to laser hair removal. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

As much as we welcome the sun and any outdoor activities the summer brings, this season can actually be damaging to your body if you don’t take the proper precautions. See below to learn more about summer aging and what you can do to protect yourself, courtesy of Huffington Post:

The sun can cause photo aging to your skin
The sun’s UVA rays are particularly responsible for causing wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots - by breaking down collagen and other fibers that keep your skin plump and line-free. Stay safe by using an SPF of 15 or higher daily, even if you spend most of your time indoors. Truth is just walking to and from your car on even a cloud day can bring the risk of damaging UV rays.

Air conditioning can dry out skin
Air conditioning works by pulling moisture from the air to chill the room, but this dryness in the air can also dehydrate your skin. Prolonged exposure can even result in itching and flaking. Remedy this by keeping your body hydrated - drink plenty of fluids and be sure to moisturize.

Sun and swimming can damage your hair
Similar to what it does to the skin, sunlight breaks down the fibers in your hair - resulting in more split ends and breakage. Anyone who swims often or has dyed hair also know the damage that pools can cause to their locks. Protect your strands, wear a hat and avoid heat-styling as often as possible.

Squinting in the sun can cause wrinkles around the eyes
Any repeated facial expression can form lines and wrinkles, so stop crow’s feet in their tracks by shielding your eyes. Wear sunglasses with UV protection!

Sun damage can easily drain the skin’s moisture and weaken the collagen and elastin, zapping the skin of its youth and vigor. For smoother, firmer and more even toned skin don’t forget to take advantage of our Healthy Skin Promotion and get an organic facial and microdermabrasion treatment for just $99 ($250 value) through the end of August!

Although it is impossible to turn back the hands of time, it is possible to regenerate the fibers that make skin look youthful.

Treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion increase circulation, stimulate cell turn over and promote collagen and elastin formation.  The result is smoother, firmer more even toned skin.

While sunscreen, large brimmed hats, and protective sun gear all help in protecting our skin from the summer sun on the outside - did you know there’s way to protect internally as well? Simply take a trip to your local grocery store!

The below foods are known to help keep your skin safe from the sun’s harmful rays so be sure to include a variety in your diet this season:

Unheated Olive Oil - This popular oil is high in vitamin E and polyphenols which are both great for your skin. It has been known to reduce photo damage from UVB radiation and a number of recent studies have pointed out its protective benefits of applied topically as well. Sprinkle some olive oil on your salad or pour a little on your already cooked vegetables. Its an easy thing to add to your diet!

Walnuts - Walnuts can help prevent cell breakdown which will help your skin fight UV radiation. So grab a handful or even grind them up and add them to your other foods or smoothies!

Apples - Apples are full of polyphenols which are plant-based compounds that help regulate inflammation and the immune system. Just another reason to eat an apple a day!

Coffee & Tea - Coffee and tea are both antioxidants and are a source of polyphenols. A recent study has shown that consuming these drinks can help protect your skin from hyper-pigmented sunspots, so keep drinking your morning joe (or tea) to boost skin health!

Broccoli - Sulphorane is a compound found in broccoli that activates the skin’s defensive system when you are exposed to UV rays. Broccoli is also the vegetable with the highest count of polyphenols!

Basil - A popular go to kitchen herb - basil actually protects your eyes from UV light by helping filter it from the retina. This is because it contains zeaxanthin which is an antioxidant!

Monday, a reminder the weekend is over and it’s time to go back to your work week routine. Tack on getting yourself up for a workout, and its no wonder why Monday motivation can be hard to come by.

So if you hit snooze this morning, don’t be discouraged. It’s not too late for you to kickstart your week with these quick workouts you can do right at your desk:

Tricep Dips - Scoot to the front of a stationary chair, placing both hands on the seat facing forwards. Then take a few steps out until your butt clears the chair and your knees are at 90 degree angles. Bend elbows straight back to lower yourself past the chair seat then straighten your arms back out without locking elbows for a complete dip. Do 20 dips in total.

Seated Leg Lifts - Sit down properly on a stationary chair, grasping the sides with your hands. Straighten your right leg completely while the left remains at a 90 degree angle. Keep your abs tight as you pulse your right leg up an inch and lower back down, completing 15-20 lifts. Then switch sides.

Standing Rear Pulses - Facing forward with your feet together and holding the edge of a desk for support, bend one leg behind you, flexing the foot. Raise your heel up a few inches, release slightly, and press your foot directly back behind you (for one full set). Continue this pulse 20 to 30 times, not letting your bent knee come forward past your standing leg the entire time. Then switch sides.

Incline Lunge with Foot Tap - Facing forward holding the edge of a desk for support, step one leg back into a lunge - keeping your weight on your front leg. Then bring the back leg in to tap next to the front foot. Continue this 10 to 15 times then switch sides.

Are you a week or two shy of your next big event? If you aren’t looking and feeling your best just yet don’t worry, there’s still time.

Check out the below last minute fit tips that celebrity trainers advise their clients during a time crunch:

Exercise Daily - You’re down to the wire so it’s time to make every effort count! Short 20 minute workouts using medium weights or your own body weight are beneficial, as well as short, high-intensity routines. Interval training will help burn fat and adding a Pilates workout will help in defining your waist.

But Don’t Overdo it! - Listen to your body! Overexercising can actually have the opposite effect due to the added stress it’s going through. Your body reads stress as a signal to hold onto stored fat instead of releasing it into the bloodstream to be used as fuel to replenish muscles. Focus on the quality of your workouts and stick to shorter durations (as mentioned above).

Fuel Your Body Right - Eat food that will give your body the nutrients it needs to stay energized. Stick to lean proteins and fiber rich vegetables, and limit processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, sugar. Dark green, non-wilted, nutrient-dense vegetables are great in fueling your body while it’s losing pounds.

Don’t Eat Late - Give yourself time to burn off the day’s calories - avoid eating 3 hours prior to  bedtime. That said, make sure you are still eating enough throughout the day (plenty of protein, fiber, healthy fats, complex cards) so you aren't ravenous by nightfall.

Sometimes following a healthy diet and lifestyle doesn’t get us the results we want as quickly as we may hope. That’s where Cavi-Lipo comes in. Cavi-Lipo is ideal for those in a solid health and wellness routine looking to remove localized pockets of fat or drop body fat percentage. Additionally, this nonsurgical procedure is equally ideal for those looking to “jump start” their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier and slimmer lifestyle.

If either of these people sound like you, give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Summertime and the livin’s easy! The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and it’s the perfect time to get together with friends for a scantily clad beach day - which is all the more reason to embark on a health kick to look and feel your best this season!

Not sure where to begin? We’ve got you covered:

Get active - Start filling up your time with activities that get you moving! Whether it’s going for a walk, joining a summer recreational sport league, or trying a new physical hobby (barre classes, rock climbing, kayaking, etc) - get yourself in the burning calories routine. Just make sure to listen to your body, hydrate well and get plenty of rest.

Focus on nutrition - No matter what your end goal is, just being active isn’t going to cut it. A proper diet plays a huge role in the efforts to getting and staying in shape. For example, making sure you have enough protein, carbs, and essential fats helps you tone up in a healthy way.

Don’t overdo it - Looking to shed some pounds? Don’t go overboard! Similar to what we said earlier, make sure you listen to your body vs. running it into the ground. You also may want to avoid stepping on the scale. Remember, the scale doesn’t reveal fat loss - you can step on the scale and see a lower number, but this could simply be from the loss of water weight. Additionally, since muscle is more dense than fat - the more you train, the number of the scale may increase, yet you’ll look thinner.

Set realistic goals - Whether you are just looking to get in shape or lose weight, develop a plan for yourself with realistic expectations. “I want to lose 10 pounds in 10 days,” is not an attainable(or healthy) goal. Rather, aim to lose half a pound to two pounds per week. If training for a marathon, give yourself a timeline leading up to it listing out the number of miles you need to cross off each week.

Looking for another solution to get in shape? Consider Cavi-Lipo, offered here at Tropicalaser! Cavi-Lipo is especially ideal for 2 types of people: those that are already following a healthy diet and lifestyle and want to remove localized pockets of fat or drop body fat % OR those who want to use the Cavi-Lipo and the recommended lifestyle protocol to “jump start” their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier and slimmer lifestyle. If either of these people sound like you, give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

Looking for a simple way to boost your skincare? It could be as easy as - dare we say it - going makeup free! Even if you can’t imagine turning down cosmetics during the work week, experts say even just skipping product for 2 days over the weekend is enough to reap the benefits.

Still not sold? Here’s what going makeup free can do for your skin:

Allows Skin to Breathe - One of the best things we can do for our skin is expose it to fresh oxygen and free pores from clogging products. Let your skin take a break from its complex makeup regimen, it’ll promote clearer, healthier skin in the long run.

Aids Sensitive Skin - While makeup is convenient for hiding blemishes and imperfections, it can also be the root of the problem! Especially with all the ingredients found in different products, women with sensitive skin can find it difficult to find suitable brands.

Self confidence boost - Love the skin you’re in! Going makeup free really helps achieve that. Enjoy your natural beauty and let your makeup take the backseat for a day.

Time saver - Consider the time spent shopping for product, applying it properly, touching it up throughout the day, removing it at night… at the end of it all, a lot of time is spent fiddling through your makeup case. See how much time you can free up by giving your skin a makeup free holiday.

Once you decide to take your makeup break, be sure to give your skin a nourishing and cleansing boost with a facial from Tropicalaser of Long Island. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Don’t be afraid of baring your body this summer, check out these toning moves to shape up your back (and core!):

Power up your plank - We know the perfect plank is one of the best exercises for your core, but by adding a row to your plank workout - you’ll target the back as well! Hold two medium free weights while in a straight arm plank position. Alternate one arm at a time, pull one arm back in a row. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times.

Use resistance bands - Grasp the ends of a resistance band, or further towards the center if more resistance is needed. Then, fully extend your arms with a slight bend in the elbows and pull the band apart by squeezing your shoulder blades together. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times.

Superman lift  - This helps target your upper and lower back, while working the core. Lie face down on the floor and lift both your legs and arms off the floor at the same time. Hold for 10 seconds before bringing yourself back to starting position. Repeat for as many reps as possible within one minute and repeat this three times.

Push ups - This basic exercise hits nearly every major muscle in your upper body, including your lats (aka the frustrating “bra bulge”). If you can’t do a full push up, modify it by kneeling in the position and doing your push up from there.

While working out and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle is always the number one solution to get the body you want, pairing it with a non surgical treatment option like cavi-lipo can help to maximize results! Don’t let insecurities hold you back from enjoying the sun this summer, schedule a cavi-lipo consultation today.

You’ve made the decision - laser hair removal is right for you. Now what? As you wait for your free consultation with an expert Tropicalaser practitioner, you’re probably already thinking ahead to how you can prepare for a smooth experience.

While we’ll remind you of all this during your initial visit - we wanted to share some tips on how you can prepare for laser hair removal:

  • Leading up to your laser hair removal appointment, be sure to avoid waxing or tweezing! The laser needs to be able to identify the hair follicle - which can’t be done if it has been plucked out. During this time, shaving is acceptable.
  • In fact, the day of your treatment - shave the area you plan to laser with a new, clean razor. Using a new razor ensures there is no lingering bacteria that could cause problems after treatment.
  • Avoid tanning -both real and fake. Your skin should be its natural color prior to your appointment to prevent pigmentation problems in the area you laser. Since laser hair removal takes several treatments, it is recommended you stay out of the sun to avoid any side effects like skin lightening.
  • If you are treating underarm hair, arrive to your appointment deodorant free. For the rest of your body, make sure to skip the moisturizer. Your skin should be completely bare in preparation!

When you first come in for your free consultation, your expert practitioner at Tropicalaser will assess your skin and hair type to determine which course of laser hair removal will best suit you, and give you an indication of how many treatments you may require. Most patients see great results in around 4-6 sessions which are carried out at regular intervals of around 4-6 weeks.  Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your consultation today!

While these last few days on Long Island haven’t been very ‘summery,’ we do know sunnier and hotter days will be upon us before we know it - is your skin prepared?

In honor of May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Memorial Day Weekend on the horizon, we wanted to share some must have tips for healthy summer skin:

Increase SPF use - Whether you are running errands or taking a short walk on your lunch break, the sun is something to me cautious of. Yes even those short bursts of sunlight can be detrimental to your skin. Protect yourself by adding a healthy layer of face protecting sunscreen to your morning beauty routine.

Choose the right lip product - Similarly to the above, make sure you are applying a lip product with an SPF of at least 15. Choose lip balms over glosses this season as balms tend to stay on your lips longer while hydrating more.

Increase water intake - And drinking water isn’t your only option! Popular summer foods like watermelon, leafy greens, and berries have a higher concentration of water to help you stay hydrated in the heat.

Get physical - In addition to the obvious health benefits, working out is good for the skin. Sweat, your body’s natural response to exercise, helps to regulate body temperature, releases trace amount of toxins, and loosens the dirt in your pores. What more? It increases circulation which in turns improves your skin’s appearance with a health glow.

Really get your skin ready for the new season by taking advantage of one of the many services offered here at Tropicalaser! Our microdermabrasion is ideal for soughing away dry, rough winter skin and our facials help to exfoliate and nourish- promoting a clear, well-hydrated and younger complexion.

We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas. Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.

With wedding season upon us and summer vacations on the horizon, you don't want to regret not wearing that bikini or cocktail dress you've been excited to show off. That’s what we’re here for! It’s not too late to take advantage of one(or more) of the many services we offer here at Tropicalaser to give you an extra boost of confidence this summer:

Microdermabrasion: Sough away your dry, rough winter skin with a professional microdermabrasion treatment. This method of deep exfoliation refines the skin using micro crystals, allowing fresh collagen and cells to form over time.

Facials: A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it's given by an experienced, knowledgeable esthetician. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

Cavi Lipo: Your non-surgical liposuction solution, Cavi-Lipo uses Ultrasound Cavitation to breakdown fat cells. The released fat is then metabolized through the liver and released by natural means. The great thing here is there is absolutely ZERO downtime following the treatment and is effective for all body areas where localized fat deposits or cellulite exists.

Laser Hair Removal: While waxing and shaving may be immediate solutions for short term hair removal, opting for laser hair removal will give you a permanent solution to your unwanted hair.  Our laser hair removal treatments work for any body area and for all skin types.

Call today for a free consultation at 516.307.1543 or visit our website for more information. We service Garden City, Great Neck, and surrounding areas - get started today!

After months of unpredictable temps, skin baring season is finally upon us. Which means one thing: your legs are going to be on full display. So before slipping into your pleated skirt, give your legs a little TLC with the below tips:

Scrub: First step on the beach-body checklist? Exfoliation. It rids your body of dry, rough skin, making it more receptive to other treatments. Opt for a hand mitt and shower gel or for more sensitive skin, a dry body brush.

Bathe: Use a gentle body wash and warm water. Alternatively, apply body oil under running water. This way once you’ve dried off, your skin is still left with the perfect amount of moisture.

Moisturize: Apply moisturizer at least once to twice daily, ideally after a shower - this keeps your skin hydrated and supple. Apply your moisturizer in a circular motion to help increase circulation.

De-Fuzz: Sure waxing and shaving are immediate solutions for short term hair removal, but to stay fuzz free for longer it may be time to consider laser hair removal with us at Tropicalaser. Our laser hair removal treatments work for any body area and for all skin types. Our treatments are also simple and safe, and conducted by experienced, licensed professionals.

Aside from helping to de-fuzz your legs, we can also help with ridding unwanted fat and cellulite thanks to our non-surgical treatment option: Cavi-Lipo. This treatment is ideal for reducing fat deposits on the thighs, hips, and other troubled areas and is the only ultra sound device that is effective on cellulite!

Give us a call at (516) 307-1543 to schedule your FREE consultation with an experienced Tropicalaser practitioner.
